Our family loves the Australian Museum. The Kidspace is a wonderfully well executed idea and my girls could spend hours there. My eldest daughter who is fast approaching 5 adores the birds and insects and strangely the minerals. For my 2 year old its all about the dinosaurs. The school holiday program run by the AM sounds awesome and I cant wait for my girls to be old enough to check it out.

Today we went to the Deep Oceans exhibition. I am fascinated by the almost alien life in the deep oceans and was very much looking forward to this event. In between chasing kids, I glimpsed some interesting stuff. The giant anglerfish model was scarily impressive, as was the replica of the bathysphere – the first submersible to descend beyond light. The model of the distingrating whale carcass and explanation of how it supports bottom dwelling life for decades was eye-opening.

For the kids the lovely Octonauts themed play area complete with a climb on model of the GUP D, a dress up box and the Octonauts playing on a big screen was the highlight. They took up residence in there and refused to leave.

my 5 year old loves the museum.  Her favorite sections are the dinosaurs and the skeletons and the bugs.

A great half day for most kids.
