Interactive caterpillar playground opens at Harbourside

Caterpillar Lane HarboursideWhen I was child, the only thing I got from playing with a large caterpillar was a nasty raised rash and an terrible itch.

Children these days are far luckier — at Caterpillar Lane, the newest, state-of-the-art play area at Harbourside — they get interactive games, a spider bungee, a jumbo slide, climbing towers, a soft play area and much more!

Their parents even get comfortable lounges and free wifi. All my mum got was a whining child and trip to the chemist.

Located on Level 2, Caterpillar Lane has just opened to the public. It is a 40m long indoor play gym for children aged 1-8. It is separated into three sections, beginning with the giant caterpillar head that overlooks Level 1.

The Caterpillar head is a soft play structure for children aged about 4-8 years.

It has multiple levels where they can get a great view of the centre below and a number of gross motor skill play activities including integrative gadget panels of Cat & Mouse and Walk Around Zoo, a spider bungee, a jumbo slide, a triangle deck climb plus loads of space to just run around and be children.

The next section is the caterpillar’s body — a colourful arch that features interactive games projected onto the floor.

Children between 1-8 years will also love the interactive touch screens that are placed around the base of the caterpillar.

Parents can relax in between each section of the caterpillar as they are separated by comfortable ottoman furniture close enough for parents to be able to watch as their kids play and learn.

The last section of the caterpillar is aimed at children ages 1-4 years. There are six interactive gadget panels, including classics Tic, Tac, Toe, Cat & Mouse and Mix & Match, a safari play car, a butterfly play slide, a triangle deck, a spider bungee and heaps more.

The play area also comes with anti-slip safety flooring, shoe self-storage and soft foam climbing equipment.
