Default Can anyone help with recommending a Fertility Specialist in Melbourne?

    Hello all,

I was just wondering can anyone recommend a good fertility specialist in Melbourne? (I assume the Melbourne IVF clinic in East Melbourne is the best place to go).

I have an appointment to see my GP next Monday and if unsuccessful in getting a BFP this month, I will be asking for a referral to see a specialist. The only thing is, I don't know anyone who has been through the IVF clinic and would really appreciate a recommendation - we all know you can get good docs and not so good docs!!! I am really looking for someone who has a good bedside manner and is polite and supportive!! (obviously someone who is able to help me get pg would be useful too )

Thanks heaps to anyone who may be able to offer me some assistance and advice!!

    Cheers.

    Hey Parkm

I go to Melbourne IVF and have just changed Doctors!
My original was Michael Gronow we did 5 rounds of IUI and 3 rounds of IVF with him and thougt ht it was time for a change. I also found him very rushed and felt like it was hard to speak with him! A couple of other girls love him but I think its a personality thing. I am now going with Lyndon Hale who is lovely found him very easy to talk too from day 1. Much more suited to me! Also saw Kate Stern but she was not for me!. Good luck with everything. keep us posted on how your going. You'll get heaps of support from the girls on here!

    Good luck

Hi there parkm, I too saw Lyndon Hale and he's fabulous. You'll have a bit of a wait to see him but he is great and has a great reputation and a fantastic success rate. I fell pregnant with my first cycle with Lyndon and even after I went and saw him once Ben and Matthew were born he had the time for us...

    Good luck with your journey.

Thank you Shajake and jbearsmum for your valued comments and recommendations!!! I have heard Lyndon Hale's name before on BubHub but wasn't sure if he was worthy of a recommendation.

    Thanks again guys.

To all other bub hubbers, any other specialist recommendations in case I can't see Lyndon Hale? Thanks in advance for any further replies!

Hi ParkM, I started at Monash IVF and was very dissapointed with proff. Gav Kovacs. I assumed by paying to join a program we'd be treated like customers but it could not have been further than the the truth. He ordered a scan in January 06 and never looked at the results. Life got int he way no one from Monash ever contacted me and iIn October 06 when I did my own follow up one of the other FS, Melissa Wong, opened the file while I was in the office went white in theface and said I needed emergency surgery. The scan showed a large tumor on my ovary. She calmed down after about ten minutes and said we'd do a nother scan first because maybe it was nothing.

When I went in for the scan results two days alter she didn't remember the case. I had an unidentified tumor and the suggestion was immediate removal, she left it up to me to organise that.

Rather than scream and sue and run riot I found a gyno/laproscopy specialist who was wonderful and had the tumor which turned out to be benign renmoved at Mercy in Heidelberg. His name was Simon Gordon.

I asked him for a referral to another FS and he suggested David Wilkinson who has just opened up City Fertility in Melbourne. At the Avenue Hospital in Prahran. He is polite and gentle, very calming and in my opinion has good bedside manner. When my husband fainted after his testicular biopsy he was very concerned, havinga nurse sit with him until he recovered and coming in every fifteen minutes or so to check on Chris. To me he has been professional but friendly.

Results? His stats are good. This is my first cycle. I got 15 eggs at collection, good sperm from my hubby, 5 embryo's, 2 implanted, 2 babecicles and am counting the days to June 6 when I get my pregnancy blood test.

Phew, long winded way to say, David Wilkinson City Fertility Centre Melbourne. If you google IVF it comes up first.

hello parkm. I went to melbourne ivf as well. I saw Dr jim Tsaltas. I originally saw prof carl woods many a year ago for endo treatment, I really struggled with the prof so I went to see his off sider jim. I found him to be very thorough and pleasant. Good luck with whoever you choose.

jbearsmum: Hello hello. Good to hear from you I actually saw lyndom hale on the 9am this morning, Talking weight and fertility. I don't know if you saw that.

Asha; Hi asha I had to smile when you mentioned that you had gone through gab kovacs. I had heard things about gab and his bed side manner, me being an emotional person i said no thanks. I live 1 1/2 hrs away from melb ivf the early mornings was really difficult on me especially with a 3 yr old. After 3 iui's & 2 cycles, to no avail. We decided that we would see gab in our home town, less travel. I knew when I went to see him what to expect. I was completelly blown away, he was very pleasant. Had been warned that he wears ivf blinkers. To be persistant with things that you feel that you want . The last visit he told me that my eggs in his words were "****". Has it changed me nup, I know that I will have my last child through him or not. Thankyou for the info about him I shall be aware re: test and I guess gut instincts. The main thing is that you have found somebody with whom you can relate to. All the best will be thinking of at bt date.

    Take care everyone

Thanks again guys for your advice! I have so much ahead of me to learn!!!

Asha - I am so sorry to hear about your terrible ordeal!!!! Thanks for the heads up on Gav Kovacs (I think I might leave him off my potential list). I might consider the City fertility Centre and David Wilkinson. Thanks for the information - I am about to google the centre!!I really hope you do get a positive blood test. I have everything crossed for you. Thanks again for sharing your experiences.

Mercimum and Cian's mum- Thanks for the recommendation for Jim Tsaltas!!! I haven't heard anything about him so about to do a google search. Thanks again!!!

    Kind regards,
