Question So WHEN is the federal election?

Have I missed a big announcement, or is THE DATE yet to be announced?

What is the deadline for an election? ie, what is the last possible date an election could legally be held?

    TIA

OK, I thought it was sometime in October to be honest, just wasn't sure of the actual date. Thanks.

No one is missing anything - no date has been set as yet.

The latest possible date for a House of Representatives election is Saturday, 19 January 2008.

If this was to happen, however, the parties would be campaigning over Xmas/New Year - not a good idea.

There has NEVER been a federal election held in Jan, so, this means the last possible date would be December 15.

I work in politics (on the Labor side) and we're all tipping October 13. But who knows what goes on in John Howard's head.

One thing to remember is that Howard has recently changed legislation regarding voting enrolment.

In the past, once an election has been called, there is a one week grace period for people to update their enrolment, or enrol if they haven't previously.

This will no longer be the case. Once the election is called, rolls close. Obviously this is a MASSIVE benefit to the Howard Government.

We have a democratic right to vote, and a lot of countries don't - so don't waste it!

If you're not enrolled, or are enrolled incorrectly, change your enrolment NOW. You can get a form from a local MPs office or the Post Office.

    cheers...Michelle

The federal election could be held anywhere between the 4th August 07 and the 19th Jan 08. However I did hear that it would be in October at this stage, usually held on a saturday.
