    Default What’s in a name

Thoughts on the name Lillibet Diana? A nod to family or a way to cause more drama?

i think you’d have to have serious issues to give your newborn baby a name which is intended to cause a stir or be inflammatory in any way. i therefore must conclude it’s a nod to the family.

I wasn’t sure how Lilibet was tied to the Queen? I read somewhere that it was but there were no details.

When the Queen was little she couldn’t pronounce Elizabeth properly so said Lillibet. Her dad continued to call her that and then it was Prince Philips pet name for her. It is known as her private nickname.

Although I see it as a mod to the family, I kind of find it offensive in a way. Maybe not offensive, but hypocritical maybe. That may not even be the right word for it.

But basically, they wanted to break away 12 months ago, so I kind of see it as a pointless connection

That’s pretty personal. I would think it something they perhaps should have consulted the Queen about before using. But maybe they did who knows

You'd hope that there's no ulterior motive involved when naming a child. But then again sometimes people even have children for ulterior motives, so who knows.

Taking someone's private, intimate nickname seems more than a bit off, but maybe they asked and got clearance........

I'm not a fan of the name. I would have just gone with Elizabeth.

Apparently that's what they want her to be called 🙄 lilly.

Well for petes sake, CALL her lilly on her birth certificate!!

I get there are some names that automatically get a shortened version (e.g. Benjamin=ben), but they're normal names, not private nick names from a family you're actively attempting to create space between with yourselves. 😏
