They would have copped flack, no matter what they named her.
I think it's nice, and their son has what people would consider a nickname as his first name, so this fits for them
My understanding was that they couldn't work within the Royal family with the intense press scrutiny, not that they were disowning their relatives. If the press would leave Meaghan the hell alone, they would still be in their roles.
This name debate is just more of the same scrutiny

    Default What’s in a name

I’m about as pro Megan and Harry as it gets, so I’m not being objective lol, but I quite like it.

Also, Harry has said umpteen times he still loves his grandmother. He quit his job as a royal (which sounds like a boring and stifling job so I don’t blame him), he wasn’t trying to cut his family out of his life altogether. I interpreted it as them trying to demonstrate they still love her and respect her (God knows why, I think the Queen is awful).

I guess if you don’t like them, you will not like the name choice, and if you do like them, you’ll like the name. They are polarising and any time they do anything it seems to further entrench everyone’s opinion.

ETA: tried to clarify myself a bit

They are polarising. As a republican to the bone I find their antics even more on the nose than the regular royalty bs.

The "role" consists of being part of an aristocratic celebrity real-life soap opera funded by the public purse. It might be desirable for them, but not sure it's reasonable to expect no public scrutiny.

They don't have jobs, other than being celebrities. Media stories about celebrities make money, that's why they exist. It's an unspoken pact - they get to live in vast privilege, and the public get a reality soap opera they can dissect and gossip about.

Quitting the "boring" parts of the job of being a "working royal" - which seems to consist of ribbon cutting and wearing dowdy outfits - but keeping the status and privilege, and using it to generate even more wealth, is not quitting royal life, it's turbocharging its transformation into celebrity for celebrity's sake.

Honestly, apart from the "you're famous because you were born this way", I find the royal family intriguing. I really loved Harry.... He seemed like a "normal" guy. Maybe because he's just older than I am, so while he was out partying, it's what everyone my age was doing to so it seemed normal.
    Anyway.

I can't bring myself to like Meghan. I can't put my finger on it. I'll probably be flamed for it. I just... I don't like her... but obviously he does so 🤷‍♀️ my opinion isn't relevant really 😅

But as far as the name... I love lilli. I dislike the use of lilibet. It's cute to hear a 3/4yo mispronounce names, but adults 😒 my nieces son was called "bacon" because a child couldn't pronounce his name right and I found it offensive. (Not the child mispronounced it, but the adults then jumping on board and naming her son that) it also upset her and a much as she told them to stop they didn't

I thought they are no longer funded by the public as they quit the royal family. They did have jobs at least at one point - Harry was in the military and Meghan was/is an actress. Now their jobs I guess are selling stories to the tabloids. I don’t think there’s anything immoral about it, it wouldn’t be my chosen profession but I’m not them. It’s a far better way to earn an income than selling drugs, scamming people or stealing!

I meant that the royal circus is funded by the public.

I have no idea about H&M's current financial arrangements. But I'm pretty certain nobody is listening to their speeches or signing book deals or any other deals with them because of their talents, professional skills or intellectual contribution. H&M are milking the royalty cow for all it's worth.

He's even offering up personal family drama for attention, which they are leveraging into money. While in the same breath bemoaning media attention (of the kind they don't control).

Eta: maybe nothing inherently immoral in selling stories to tabloids. There is something immoral about playing the mental health card when it comes to you or your wife, but then using the media to call your father neglectful and cold, your sister in law a bit of a cow, your brother a prisoner in the family, and an unnamed family member a racist. I wonder what the mental health effects of their antics and mud-slinging might be on his 90+ yo grandmother.

Yeah but it’s the same for most actors, sporting celebs etc. Obviously the public want to hear about it hence it makes money. Everyone has different opportunities in life - I don’t see any issues with people capitalising on them so long as it is not immoral.

Anyway, it’s not really my thing - I find trashy articles boring (I usually don’t even know who the person is) and I don’t have an Instagram account but this stuff must be pretty popular in the general public or it wouldn’t generate so much money.

Yeah I don't actually care that much. This is what happens when I take the day off and my plans fall through, I end up spending the day discussing the royals on bh.
