    Default Pregnancy announcement wording...

Hi there, I am just trying to settle a debate with my DH about the wording on our announcement. We are a family of 4, now expecting our 3rd baby... if I use the phrase 'and then there were five' does that make you think family of 5 or that we are expecting baby no. 5? I think family of 5, hubby thinks baby no. 5.

Help us settle this pleaseeeeee!! Thanks in advance!

Could actually be either. Given however that you are announcing a pregnancy to people that know you are currently a family of 4, then I’d take your announcement as the family is increasing to 5, not the number of children.

I think it can be interpreted either way, if it were me I would either use different wording, or say ‘and then there were 5’ followed immediately by something like ‘our third baby will be due in [month]’ to clarify.

This is true... it should be pretty self explanatory, unless they think we are having triplets!!! Hahaha thanks so much!

Ohh good idea! Doesn't leave any room for confusion that way. Hahaha thanks x

If you’re saying “now we’re five” parents are included in that five. However if you say “now there are five” this can mean five children!
What a great debate, good luck settling it.

There are so many ways to look at it. I may have to rethink our announcement. Thanks for your reply!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!! We went with a version of:

"one is great, 2 is fun, so why not add/ have another one"

    Then, "baby #3 due..."

So funny story... when I told my dad I was pregnant I said “are you ready to be a grandad of 5?”

He then had a freak out that I was pregnant with quintuplets not that I was pregnant with his 5th grandchild

So even if they know you are currently a 4 person family, don’t be surprised if someone misunderstands
