Default Moving out of Sydney and no idea where to move to

We had an RE agent evaluate the house this arvo. It turns out it was a lot higher than I expected which is fantastic given the economic woes of covid. So now we're looking to sell up and move while the market is still okay. I don't want to be delaying it any further.

The problem is, we have no where to go following a sale! Still very much undecided. The topic has become such a source of frustration for both of us.

    We've considered the:
ACT and surrounds which technically is NSW (all the way up to Eden-Monaro)
TAS (DH has his heart set on Hobart. It's growing on me but I am worried about access to health care and then the kids leaving when they're older due to a lack of job opportunity)

For personal reasons, WA, NT and VIC are not within our sights.

What's left is SA and QLD. I know nothing about either and my only knowledge of QLD is the childhood family holidays to the gold and sunshine coasts.

Work isn't an issue. 99% of work is done remotely. We'd have to drive to Sydney once a year for Christmas and NY to visit both sets of grandparents.

Where would you recommend a move to? And why?

    xx

We moved to the Sunshine Coast about 5 years ago and LOVE it. Small enough that it has a community vibe and large enough that it has everything you need. Sydney is just over an hour by plane and Brisbane 1.5 hr drive should you need something that only the big cities have. Otherwise Brisbane is really nice, although bigger and it lacks nice breaches. I don’t know much about SA. What are your likes ? Eg nature etc?

I loved Adelaide when I visited last year. Quiet, close to winerys etc.

I absolutely love the beach and feel very much at peace there. So anywhere coastal (or close to) definitely works. However, DH is after a decent sized lot of land (1000sqm+).

A little too inland? I have no idea what I'm even looking for tbh. I love all the green though!

Are you wanting to get away from Sydney altogether?

We left Sydney and now live in the mountains. We are so close to Sydney but it’s like living in a country town. It’s the best of both worlds. Everything we need (medical/retail/etc) is 20 minutes from us and just over an hour on a limited stops train to the city but we live on 2500sqm of land backing onto bush.

No recommendations on where to move to, but given you don't have a specific place in mind that you're familiar with, I'd seriously consider renting first until you get a feel for the area.

I moved to a completely new area after never even visiting. When we first moved here, there were certain suburbs that I absolutely loved and others that I liked. That changed so much within the first year when I actually got to see more.

Malaney is nice but a bit too far away from things for my taste. You can get a largish block much closer to the beach - have a look at Yandina Creek, Doonan, maroochy river, Valdora, etc.

Eg here’s a block for sale for a similar price, bush outlook, only 10 mins from the beach, schools, shopping centre etc. 15 mins from the airport. https://www.realestate.com.au/proper...reek-202647462

It’s not close to the beach but we live in Central West NSW and we wouldn’t leave 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s a nice area but close enough to Sydney and Canberra.
