We r finding the home schooling of a private school for grade 6 at our school too hard on the child and parents. They r long 8 hour days with homework and not enough time to do things , no teacher to explain . We have been in touch with teachers and head of school and nothing has changed .
We wish it was a couple of hours a day max . Long days and homework and no teacher help and all on parents is too much . . Every day is too much .
It’s also stopped a parent returning to work to cope instead with this demanding 8 hours daily of schooling adding to more stress at such a time
What are other people’s experience

Not even teachers teach 8 hours a day they teach about 5 with breaks. They are smart people, they know it would be hard for parents to take their place, even a few hours a day is still fine. No need to make an anxious situation worse.

Finding it hard for my grade 9 public school daughter. She is doing her best, but online learning for her is difficult. She has ADHD and anxiety. I’m trying to help her as best I can but she is resisting my input.
If this carries on too long I’m worried about the impact on her learning.
She’s the type of kid that will fall behind if she has just one day off school.

Has the school said what their expectations are in terms of hours?

OP, We are given a timetable as a ‘guideline’ to follow and it is just that, a guideline to be done as we see fit. Our grade Sixer has a lot of work, but nowhere near 8 hours worth. Today our DD started at around 8:30am and was done by 1:00pm. During that time she had a small fruit break and lunch break like she would at school.
Guidance is in the form of being able to email the Teacher or ask questions when they’re on their online platform where they can message online and see their classmates questions etc too.

My DD is also Grade 6 at a private school. They are expected to be working a full school day 8:25-3:30. She has been having a mix of working independently on tasks set by the teacher and also participating in some online classes where the teacher is teaching particular topics as he would in the classroom. She isn't requiring my help besides occasionally calling out for e.g. clarification on what a particular word means etc. Any questions regarding content or how to complete the work are directed to the teacher whether by email/microsoft teams/seesaw etc. There was quite a lot of work but I think if they are working the usual school day and not getting it finished then just mention to the teacher that they've done as much as they can in that time and don't worry too much. Plenty of breaks to get out the 'classroom' as they would during the school day when they have morning tea and lunch and specialist lessons to change it up.

Probably not a great comparison, my brother is in grade 11 this year, he's doing online learning like everyone else, so when parents aren't home I've been on zoom with him making sure he stays at it and help with anything he needs if teachers aren't available..
Most days he starts ~8.30am and finishes around 5.30 including finishing off what would be home work, most of his peers though are done by 2.
