    Default Gynecologist-led care?

Hello, chums! I had my first appointment this week with a GP (I'm new to the area, I wouldn't call her 'my' GP exactly). She's recommended that I see the gynecologist in the practice for my next appointment and throughout the pregnancy. I'm not keen - I had a great time with midwife-led care for my first born and assumed it would be the same deal this time around. I'm 35 but had no complications last time and have no health issues that I'm aware of.

So has anyone had a gynecologist as their main practitioner?! Surely they're not going to be as knowledgeable as an obstetrician or a midwife?

    Any thoughts most welcome!

Hey sorry you have probably had more appointments by now so would love to hear what you decided and how it went!

That said... some GPs (at least where I live) are more trained than others in pregnancy stuff and can do “shared care” with the hospital or midwife clinic. Maybe the GP you have seen doesn’t have a lot of experience in this and would prefer to refer you to the gyno because they know a bit more and are in a better position to answer your questions and provide some more specialised care? I think if it’s “just” a gyno rather than an ob/gyn you would probably still go to the midwives as well? You can choose to do midwives for your whole pregnancy though, I think I only saw the GP at the start for my initial bloods and referral. I went to a private obstetrician though.

You are free to choose your own care. If you dont want to see a gyno then say, "No I want to do midwife led care".
