Default Adding a person to private health.

I have hospitals + extra private health through Medibank for myself and my three kid’s. I’m wondering if anyone has added someone else to their cover who isn’t immediate family? I want to add my mum to it but she only wants extras.

Does anyone know if this is doable?

i do not know for sure, but i would think it is not allowed. I would think your mum will have to take her own insurance cover. marie

Yeah i dont think you can. A family policy includes 2 adults and children under 18. You can get a single person policy just with just ambulance and extras cover (so none of the other hospital stuff) so its pretty cheap. I know HCF offer a policy like that.

call and ask. is she a dependent? if so then perhaps they’d allow it?? my feeling overall is they won’t but it’s certainly worth an ask.

The extras only cover with hcf is about $3 a week so pretty cheap.

found this. as it’s silent on adding adults that’s aren’t your own kids, i would conclude that it’s probably a no go. can she get her own extras only policy?

Highly doubt it. Plus if your mum is only after extras but your policy is hospital plus extra she is really needing a different policy anyway. There are some pretty affordable options for her to take her own out.

Thanks everyone. Mum doesn’t know I’m looking into it. I wanted to see if it could be done first. I’ll look into getting her her own cover.

Can't be done. They will only allow two generations even if she's considered a dependant.
In any case cover for her will be different to what you have, so you can't add her to yours and only give her extras
