Just wondering if anyone has any recent experience adopting in Queensland?

Thanks @bezzy. I know there are very limited children requiring adoption so wondering if it is worth even applying? Also what the time frame was between expression of interest, assessment and placement? I am currently applying to be a foster carer but would love something more permanent.

We adopted our little one in 2016. We submitted our expression of interest June 2015, were selected for assessment sometime a little later in 2015, that was completed in June 2016 and we were placed with him in September of that year. My husband’s work and my family’s experience with adoption would have helped our application be seen favourably in supporting a child coming into a family through adoption, so potentially our timeframes were on the somewhat quicker end of normal but I’m not sure. We only applied for domestic adoption, there were very few, if any, inter-country programs we qualified for due to not being active Christians and already having a biological child. Since then the permanent care program came in, so that might be worth looking at too. Best of luck in your journey, I would definitely look at applying.

Hey Lighter, My partner and I adopted twice through the local program in Queensland. We were placed with our eldest in 2014 and our youngest in 2017. We put in our expression of interest for our eldest in February 2013 and went through the process it took about a year of interviews both times. We had to wait until we had received our final order in 2015 to put in our second expression of interest. The interview process took about a year again. The adoption info on Child safety website will give you all the info you need to start the process. Happy to answer any questions you might have. PD
