Default Is a child-sized bride Halloween costume offensive?

Kmart has removed a child sized bride costume from their Halloween range after a petition was started by a person who found it offensive. This was the nature of the complaint:

"A child bride costume currently exists on Kmart shelves in children's sizes. Tell Kmart this is beyond inappropriate and offensive and that they have a social responsibility to pull this item off their shelves immediately," the petition reads.

"Each year, 12 million children (girls as young as 6 years old - the same size as this "costume") are sold or married off by their family without their consent.

"That's one million child marriages per month!"

An overreaction, or do you agree?

Overreaction. Children shouldn’t have babies and unfortunately some do but do we stop kids from playing with dolls? No. Child brides are a huge problem but stopping kids in Australia from dressing up as brides is not going to do anything for those child brides. Maybe put a leaflet in with the costumes about the issue and ways to donate / help?

i saw this a while ago and found it pretty offensive on the grounds of it being sexist. boys don’t dress up as grooms so why should girls dress up as a bride? is it something to aspire to? glad it’s gone.

Why can’t boys dress up as brides?

Me and my sisters used to dress up in my mums white clothes and wear her costume jewellery all the time as kids we also played with dolls. We had innocent fun and all had children and got married over the age of 18 🤦‍♀️
I just don’t personally see it as a Halloween costume unless it’s a zombie bride 🤷‍♀️maybe just a everyday costume they can purchase for fun dress ups I don’t see an issue.

    Think it's in poor taste.

Default Is a child-sized bride Halloween costume offensive?

I saw it this morning and rolled my eyes. It’s part of the regular range not the Halloween range. Hey people could use it as a cheap christening or communion gown.

There is also a petition online to get it put back on shelves.

What’s the difference between this costume and a child bride being married off in certain religions

Edit. My book week parade when I was in reception I was dressed up as bride

Should we start a petition to get the astronaut costume pulled from the sleeves because it only has a picture of a child that appears to be a boy on the packet?

I think this is ridiculous. PC and being offended gone mad.
In twenty year’s time what will little kids be allowed to do for fun I wonder, without offending someone.

I also can’t stand the carry on about gender stereotypes. Last time I looked around it’s still mainly women wearing wedding dresses etc and what’s the problem with that? What’s got to be so bad about accepting a gender role if that’s what you want?
You can be a girly pink bride etc without someone needing to take offence at you.
Is there a voice of reason in society at all?
