    Default When to seek assistance

    Hi ladies

At what point do you bite the bullet and request assistance in trying to conceive?

We are currently TTC #3. Have been for 12 + months now. In that time we have had 2 chemicals and 1 miscarriage. The age gap is now getting bigger and bigger and each cycle that AF arrives i cant help but worry.

I have seen my normal GP who isnt concerned as we had not trouble conceiving so far. However i dont want to get another 6-12 months down the track and still have no luck.

What is the next step? An IVF clinic? And how to i get a referral if my GP isnt concerned.

Will be looking at going through a bulk billed clinic, and with waiting times it may be a 6-12 month wait anyway, so how can i get the ball rolling just in case?

I would be finding a New GP!

12+months is plenty of time to try naturally, and for them to discard your concerns is pretty poor healthcare.

I would try start the ball rolling now with a bulk billing clinic as they can have quite a few tests to run.

My bulk billing clinic you see a GP in the clinic who does the referral for you, so you may not need to get one from your gp

Thank you so much for your reply. Her reasoning for not being concerned was that, even though we have been trying to 12 months, i have fallen pregnant 3 times?

I have just been reading up about Primary IVF in Perth and they have a fertility GP there who ill look to book in with.

    Thank you so much.

Also, a huge congrats to you!! Here’s to a safe and healthy 9 months for you

Definitely find a new GP. Even though you’ve fallen pregnant 3 times, none of them have stuck. Surely that would warrant investigation? Hopefully you’ll find someone who actually listens to you.

I’d be finding a new gp or a gyno to start investigating. They can’t deny you your rights to want to seek further help

    Thanks lovely.

Can a normal GP do semen analysis and all other fertility testing? Or do you need to see a specialist fertility GP?

Congrats to you too hun, cant believe G is going to be a bug sister!

@MrsMummaButterfly a good gp will do bloods for you to check hormones, thyroid and a few other things as well as semen analysis for DH.

There is also no reason for them to not refer you to a specialist.

Get a new gp. No harm in seeking an opinion from a fertility specialist. 12 months plus I would be seeing a fs.

Absolutely agree, second opinion. Generally, 3 losses and 12 months warrants deeper investigation and I'm surprised your doc doesn't see it that way.

Thank you so much @Mum-I-Am @BornToBe and @Tinkers

So will a normal GP be able to order and advise on a semen analysis?
