Default 16 month old not napping!

    Hi everyone,
We sleep trained my son when he was about 7 months old (using a mix of different strategies), and since then he has been sleeping through the night 7pm-7am. For that I’m really grateful and because of it I was never too strict about his day naps. He was never the type of baby to do a long nap, usually 45-60 mins at a time, even though I tried. He would self settle for both naps and bedtime.
He is now 16 months old, and as of the last few weeks, he refuses to sleep by himself for naps. Luckily he still manages to self settle at night and sleeps through.
So for his day naps I am having to pat him to sleep, and he only does 30 mins. Or I have to hold and rock him. I tried to let him be but he just stands up and cries in his cot. He is still on 2 naps a day, one around 11 and the other 3.30.
I tried one midday nap but again he would only do 30-60 mins so would be over tired by bedtime.
Any suggestions on what I can do to improve his day naps? To get him to sleep on his own again and ideally to do a longer nap of 2 hours.
    Thanks in advance!

He only needs one nap. The transition is difficult. My kids still kept the morning nap and dropped the afternoon one, which I eventually pushed back 5 mins each day so the one nap was in the middle of the day.

The transition is hard but at that age he doesn’t need 2 naps.

Both my babies have never slept more than a total of 13 hours day and night, so attempting to drop to one nap would be best I’d say as he may only do 1 hour total of naps a day from now on. My daughter dropped to 1 nap at 10 mths and dropped completely on 2nd birthday
