Default Cystic Fibrosis genetic carrier screening

Hey all, hoping to chat with ppl in similar situations, I'm 15 weeks pregnant with bub #1 at 41yo. It's been a long road to get here and all scans have been perfect, nipt was low risk etc but today my OB told me I've tested as a carrier to the CF gene mutation (1/25 chance)
DH has now been tested to see if he is also a carrier.
If he tests positive to the same mutation, bub has a 1/4 chance of having CF.

Has anyone been in a similar position?

I'm freaking out a bit, surely we won't be unlucky enough for him to also be a carrier but it's a 1/25 chance.

If he is, we have to have an amniocentesis to see if bub has it.

Sorry to hear you have this added stress! X x

I don’t have any experience but my personal thoughts on this if DH is a carrier, maybe do some research and see if it would make a difference to you before you do the amni as I think this comes with it’s own risks?

Let us know how you go with DH results I’ll be waiting to hear x x

Oh far out, I was thinking a few days 😔 The stats are on your side though sweet, there’s every chance you won’t need to progress to amniocentesis, so hang in there ❤️ This will hopefully be a blip on a successful and beautiful and healthy and much loved pregnancy and bub xxx

    Hello lovely.

I’m sorry you have to deal with this

We found out pre ivf that DF is a carrier, luckily we found out not long after that I’m not, so we don’t have to worry about it, but it was definitely a stressful time while we waited for my results.

I hope you get your results soon, and 🤞 for a negative carrier outcome
