I tidy first (and spend the night before yelling at DH and DD to help pick up their stuff).

Thanks ladies I feel normal now. It’s about value for money and also a bit of pride.

Oh i want a cleaner soooo bad now!
If i did have one, i would totally agree with clearing spaces so they can clean them efficiently and sorting dirty washing, i wouldnt really like someone going through my stuff to see whats dirty and whats clean.
And i wouldnt expect them to put stuff away as they wouldn't know where things go.
I would just love to have someone come and just mop and vacuum all the floors and wipe down all the bathroom fixtures and surfaces once a week. And maybe clean the windows once a month or something. Hmmmm... thinking i might look into this.

Back before my DD got braces and we could afford a cleaner we would tidy the night before. DH, kids, all of us. She was paid to vacuum, mop, dust and do bathrooms /toilets, 2hrs. Just the same as when I have my big cleaning day, everything needs to get packed up and tidied away first. If I wanted her to tidy I'd need to pay for the extra hour+ that it takes as well.

I totally get the pride thing, when we had a cleaner I was ok with her seeing crumbs on the floor but I didn’t want her to know the actual state of our house with toys strewn everywhere
Now I miss having a cleaner, might see if I can convince DH to get one again

Oh that’s so lucky!! Mine was $900 in cash I had stashed away in a drawer. Silly I know to have that money sitting there but she really had no reason to go into the drawers and I was putting this money aside gradually for our holiday and it was hidden. When I questioned her on it she hung up on me, then stopped answering my phone calls. I went knocking on her door (she still had my house keys so wanted them back) and she confessed that she had taken it as a way of getting out of a messy relationship and she would pay me back. A week later she had moved, changed her phone number ect. Cops didn’t couldn’t less and said not their problem!!
