@Californication, totally fine hon, and thanks for letting me know (and others) that you can't pop them into your recycling bin! I never used to, until we were in a Nespresso store and one of the guys serving us told me to do that, obviously not the correct information. So thanks for letting me know!

My old Via Venezia coffee machine just died, it was over 25 years old. I miss it so! So simple and uncomplicated. I donated the parts to the repairer so hopefully it can keep another alive, and I get a trade in discount when I'm ready to get the new one, it's about $1000. I have the little stovetop caffeteria presently as we've been doing a bit of travelling. I also like to choose the coffee and mix it up, the better 'bulk' option I have found presently is the Vittoria organic which I stock up on at woolies when it's on special, around $20 per kilo.

We have the pods at work and I hate them, both taste and environmentally. As far as recycling goes, Nespresso sends us two boxes and plastic bags in a larger box by road from Melbourne to Perth. Then a van delivers it to us. Then we fill them and call them to collect by van, then in a truck back to Melbourne. They can't guarantee what happens to them and whether they actually get recycled or not. The commercial grade machine always breaks so the repair guy is there all the time. So given the amount of miles and effort that goes into it 'perhaps' recycling them I wonder if landfill has a lesser footprint!

We have a Breville coffee machine, have had it for 5 years. Bought it for $700 with 5 yr warranty. It froths milk as well. Hubby and I have 2 cups a day each (when i wasn't pregnant). We buy organic coffee beans from woolies that goes on special 40% off every 2-3 mos, (from $30 to $17-18) a bag lasts around 6 weeks. We calculated we are spending 60 cents per cup for very good coffee. We both have thermos flask which keeps coffee warm for hours.

Best $700 we have spent so far. And no pods as waste too.

You won't regret it. I think sometimes my husband loves our machine more than me. Lol.
