    Default Testosterone patch for IVF

    Hi Everyone,

Hoping someone can help. DH and I are getting ready to start our next round of IVF and our fertility specialist has prescribed testosterone patches to help egg quality/quantity.

Just wondering if anyone has experience with the patches? Any information would be really appreciated.

    Thanks
    Clarry.

I used testosterone patches and got the best haul of embryos I’d ever had. It was my 6th egg retrieval and I ended up with 9 day 5&6 embryos. Our fertilization rate was much higher than it usually was. Not sure if it was patches or not but it might be worth giving it a shot. I had no side effects. X

sorry to hijack this post. I'm wondering if you'll be able to share more details please? PM me if you're more comfortable there.

my background, my AMH is 9 which is borderline normal/low for a 33 year old (2 years ago). i have had 4 collections so far (currently in cycle 4).

    cycle 1: 10 collected / 6 mature / 4 fertilised / 1 day 5 blastocyst graded 4BB transfered fresh - BFN

    cycle 2: 5 collected / 4 mature / 3 fertilised / 1 day 5 compacting blastocyst transfered fresh - BFN
    >>> poor egg quality was observed and poor embryo quality with high fragmentation

    cycle 3: 10 collected / 6 mature / 1 fertilised / no blastocyst on day 5

    cycle 4: 9 collected / 6 mature / 4 fertilised / waiting for day 5 transfer 🤞🏻

I'm interested in what your AMH is and your IVF background. I'm hoping to improve my egg quality in the future if needed ☺ thanks

Thanks for your reply @Finnigan. That’s great that you had a great collection/fertilisation rate on the patches, it gives me some hope going into our 8th stim cycle!

If you don’t mind sharing I was wondering what strength patch you had and when you used it? My specialist was a bit vague on details and just said to start 5 days before our next round of IVF, but now I’m not sure if he means 5 days before AF starts or before FSH injections. And he never mentioned when to stop the patches.

    Thanks again for your help

Wow, 8th stim cycle, you’re a true IVF warrior! Yes, I used the patches for 5 days, starting 5 days before AF was due. I honestly can’t remember the dosage though, sorry. Good luck xxx

Hi . I believe my AMH was 13 when it was tested when I was around 32-33 years old. My last collection, when using the patches, was when I was 36, so obviously it would have dropped since then. I’ll check back in tomorrow and give you the run down on my IVF history. X

Thanks @Finnigan, I really don’t feel like a warrior going through this process! Thanks again for your help, I’ll start the patches 5 days before AF is due and confirm with my specialist when to stop them. I just picked up the prescription and they are 5mg over a 24hour period but my specialist said to take them off when I’m sleeping. I’m starting to feel positive about this next round!!

I kept mine on for 24hrs then took it off and put on a new one. If you’re taking it off at night you won’t be getting the full 5mg. But perhaps that’s what you FS wants. Who is your FS?

Hi @Finnigan, thanks for your help, sorry about the delayed reply it’s been a busy week. I finally heard back from my specialist today Dr Myran Palan from Melbourne IVF/the Fertility Centre. I’m on day 6 of the Testosterone patches and he said to continue using the patches until I have my trigger injection but to take it off overnight. I’m not sure how much experience he has with the patches but hopefully this protocol helps improve quality
