Default Has anyone come off their antidepressant prior to TTC?

    Hi all

I was wondering if anyone came off their antidepressant prior to TTC?
If so, how did you go coming off it?

    Thank you

I have. I weaned off slowly months in advance. Weaning off made me feel a bit physically crook..but mentally felt great. Best to discuss with gp as they will guide you through it. Best of luck

Yep sure did, I’ve come off a few times now so I’m used to it.
My advice is chat to your GP coming off them can be crazy hard and I believe some are perfectly fine to take during pregnancy but I’m not 100% on that!

I couldn’t, as I relapse when I do, I’ve tried in the past. I saw an antenatal psychiatrist for advice prior to TTC. I’ve mentioned this pharmacist before,

    Monash Medical Centre
    Mr Rodney Whyte
    E: rodney.whyte@monashhealth.org
    T: (03) 9594 2361
    F: (03) 9594 6595

He is the guru of medications in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Really approachable.
Depending of the severity of your illness, untreated depression can have negative effects on the foetus, which I know for me,would definitely been true, as I stop eating and become suicidal.

Whatever happens remember to keep up your selfcare

Good Luck, I hope everything goes well for you.

    Hi Tinkers

Thanks for your reply. May I ask if you went back on your antidepressant after pregnancy?
I'm having trouble coming off the last 10mg.. I have been slowly weaning from 20mg with no issues until I tried to drop to 5mg then I got some nasty withdrawl effects, so back on 10mg. How did you wean? My GP is pretty clueless about SSRI's unfortunately.
