Default sleep school and getting a 6 month old baby off his dummy and into a good routine

I'm wondering what people can tell me about sleep school . Getting a 6 month old into a good routine without leaving him to cry.
    getting him off his dummy.
i'm wondering what other peoples experiences were like in the various sleep schools. I've heard people say that some programs are very demanding.
    Thank you.

We used a sleep consultant that provided support over the phone and via email for 2 weeks. They provided a schedule based on our specific baby. He was 8 months old when we did this. He went from waking 2-3 times a night to sleeping through the night within 2-3 days. We also ditched the dummy at the same time. There was control crying involved which I had always been very against but it only lasted about 3 days until my baby adapted to his new routine.
