Haven’t been on much lately but keep checking in now, looking forward to seeing some more beautiful pics from @gorgeousgeorge and @Kalina !! Hope you are both feeling well, can’t believe how much time has flown and you are both nearly due! (Probably hasn’t gone fast for you )
I am heading to Thessaloniki in a few weeks for a full cycle and was wondering if anyone has any tips on some nice areas to stay in the Halkidiki area (about an hour away) as we will have some time for a short break and it looks like a nice holiday spot without having to get on another plane etc
Can’t remember who has been to Thessaloniki for treatment?
Another off to Greece soon, I’m so excited for you too @Aok 🤞🏽
    Good luck xx

Was wondering if anybody knew the equivalent amount of methylfolate to folic acid? I have always taken methylfolate as I am homozygous MTHFR , but have been asked to take 5mg of folic acid? I am currently taking 800mcg methylfolate and was wondering if anyone knew if this was sufficient?

I was always on 800 mcg too @Aok, and docs/naturopaths were always happy with this for my MTHFR. I used to take Seeking Health Optimal Prenatal which was excellent and had the 800, but I think there’s equally good Aust versions now, like bioceuticals InNatal etc.

    Thanks @Peninsula Girl
I thought that 800mcg was enough, 5mg seems like way too much and I think that amount would make you quite nauseous xx

Hey @Aok - the dose also depends on the reason you're being told to take it. So a lower dose is the standard approach to lowering the risk of neural tube defects, but there is some research suggesting that very high doses (ie the 5mg) improve pregnancy rates and lower miscarriage rates. Nothing conclusive, but I think that's the reason many clinics prescribe the high doses, not the neural tube development aspect.

Hi i agree with kalina, i don't know much about it really but i know that folate is really important for providing the energy needed for cell division within the body, which is basically the main thing an embryo needs to do to continue to develop into a baby, so i think that may be a reason in addition to avoiding neuro defects.
Most fs will prescribe 5mg to ivf patients that i know of.

    Thanks @Kalina and @gorgeousgeorge
That’s interesting, I hadn’t heard that before, makes sense now why they have prescribed it, have either of you taken that amount in a methylated form?
