Hello everyone this is my first time posting, I have been reading through so many of your posts and I am so thankful for all of the amazing information in here.

After 9 failed IVF attempts with my own eggs I have made the decision to head to Greece and use an Egg Donor (and a sperm donor as I am doing this on my own).

Does anyone have any experience with the clinic called Iakentro in Athens?

Would anyone be able to give me some advice as to what to expect there and if there is anything I should know prior to getting to Athens?

I'm so thankful I found this thread

Welcome @mehere and congrats on making the decision to move to DE, it’s a big decision but hopefully a very positive one, it definitely was for me.

I went to Iakentro in 2017 and had success first time, I now have 15 month old twins. I found the clinic to be very professional, spotlessly clean, the staff very friendly and knowledgeable, and it was all very transparent re costs, processes and appointments etc.

You could go directly through the clinic, or I went through Ruth Pellow, an English coordinator who works with Iakentro and other clinics in Europe. I found going through her very easy as she is incredibly knowledgeable, available whenever I needed her and made the whole process very easy.

She also helped me with my immune issues and ensured that the meds prescribed by my various specialists here worked with the clinic’s protocols. If you haven’t been checked for immune issues I’d highly recommend it. Search for a post by @Phia which outlines the tests etc you can have done if you haven’t already.

Happy to answer any questions you have, feel free to PM me.

Hi @mehere I am going to South Africa so can’t help with your question on Iakentro (although I’ve heard good things). But just a quick thread crash to say hi as I’m also doing it on my own with double donor.

The lovely women here in the Greece forum were so supportive for me as I started my donor egg journey (even though I wasn’t going to Greece) so I still follow this thread to keep up with everyone’s news.

Wishing you the best of luck!

    R

Hi @peninsulagirl thats so great to hear you had such a good experience with Iakentro and congrats on your 15 month old twins. I am so pleased to hear good feedback...

I have also been to touch with Ruth and she is helping me organise this mission so I feel very lucky to have come across her (from one of these helpful threads).

Did you go to the Athens branch or the other branch in Thessaloniki? I am looking at the Athens branch so if you have any advice on hotels nearby I would love to know your thoughts?

Is there anything else you can think of that I should consider or do before I go?

I'm so nervous about this process, especially after 9 failed IVF cycles. All my hopes are on this working. xxx

Hi @mehere and welcome. I also went through Ruth but i did not go to Iakentro. There are several ladies who have gone there and one actually going there very soon. I have only ever heard excellent things about Iakentro and would definately go there myself if I was to do it all again.
I agree with everything @peninsulagirl said and also recommend getting tested for immune issues. There are a few specialist that do this depending on what state you are in?
I always stayed in Syntagma as I found it central to everything and easy to get to by train (I don’t like the crazy taxi drivers in Athens).
If you are going full doner you don’t even need to line up cycles with your egg doner. You can choose to freeze all and go over for transfer when you are ready. This is what I did (except with DH sperm).

I just wanted to say that I know it all seems very daunting at first but in reality it is so easy and uncomplicated. Soo much easier than the ivf you have already done. Ruth is amazing and is there to help you every step of the way. I have an amazing nearly 8mo son from Greece and I kick myself every day that I didn’t go there sooner.
Best of luck we are all here to answer your questions as well.
