I think most transfer 2 due to the cost and time to go back for a FET. It varies by clinic, but both clinics I looked at have a 50% chance of twins with a double transfer (ie if you get a BFP there’s a 50% twin rate). So I definitely wouldn’t go a double unless you are ok with twins.

I am going to South Africa.

    Hi Ruby,
I will be doing a transfer in May. I've told the clinic that if I get a good quality day 5 embyro, then transfer 1 otherwise if only have day 3, then transfer 2.

Contrary to what you may think, transferring 2 embryos does not double your chance of getting pregnant. It only increases it by 3-5%.

Embryos that reach day 5 are generally stronger than day 3. Chance of twins with day 5 embryos is about 40% but with day 3, it is 20-25%.

If a twin pregnancy does arise, there are increased risks to the mother and child. I am guessing that the fitter and healthier you are, the less risky it is. If you have a history of diabetes or high blood pressure, that would increase your risk significantly as gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia are common risk factors.
