    Default Flying with a 2 year old ... H.E.L.P

Later this year my husband, 2 year old son and myself will be flying to Mexico. My son has only flown once to Adelaide and back and handled it quite well so the takeoff and landing doesn't worry me too much. Its the keeping him occupied part that scares me!!

We have 2 flight options and i would LOVE some advice on which is best for my very active, very loud, high energy child!

We can fly out from Sydney at 10:30 in the morning direct to LA, then onto Mexico - making travel time shorter.
    OR
Leave Sydney at 2pm, stopover in Fiji for 2 hours then leave for LAX at 7pm.

Obviously if it were just me i would avoid the stopover but for my son I thought maybe getting off the plane and running around the airport will tire him out and once we are back on the last leg he will hopefully fall asleep??

Honestly I am hopeless with flights and travel so you may all call me crazy for even considering a longer travel time but any advice is good advice!!

We flew from Brisbane to LA and transferred on to orlando, and coming home NYC-LAX-BNE when DS was 2 yr 4 months, and also BNE-LAX return when he was 3 yr 2 months. It’s nothing to worry about really. My advice is don’t bother with heaps of toys etc it’s just more to carry and they’re not really interested, an iPad and the onboard movies were more interesting.
ETA I'd definitely not stop in Fiji. If he’s asleep you don’t want to interrupt that 😬

Direct flight. Let him watch as many movies and cartoons as possible. Bring an iPad with some downloaded faves as well, or something you know he’ll never get bored with.

We did Europe with 3 kids, the youngest was 2 and we had no issues.

Ps Nadi airport is BORING! It won’t be that fun for him, there’s nothing to do and very few (maybe even none??) food outlets.

    Enjoy your trip.

Go via LA or even Honolulu and have a few days there

    Get them their own seat

Only pack a few things on board with the most important being their favourite toy/blankie and some of their snacks

Nadi airport forget it. It’s the most boring airport with nothing to do and a tiny little departure area with a duty free shop and a hungry jacks/Burger King and a sandwich place for memory
