I'm sure they were both regurgitating their parent's points of views at each other. Which was kind of funny in some ways, because there was a question on the quiz about immigrants retaining their culture in Australia and DD said of course, and her BF was like no way, anyone who moves here needs understand they should be Aussies. BUT as DD pointed out to him, his family are Italian and have retained their cultural traditions...........

Yes, so we have to go to the polls on May 18th, and if I hear either Bill or Scomo, say " this election is about Choice'. once more, I think I will throw the tv out the window. And we have weeks of this to live through yet. marie.

I wonder what our turnout would be like if voting wasn't compulsory, I suspect (may be wrong) quite low. I think compulsory voting is a good thing, but I do wonder.

Most of my friends just don't care and the ones that do don't want to vote because it's a 2 party system, and neither party represents them.

It's a bit of a vicious circle when people don't want to vote because they feel that nobody represents their views, because that only perpetuates the two party system.

Meanwhile at election time the two major parties generally stick as close to the centre as they can, it's usually only swinging voters they're battling for. Personally I've been pleasantly surprised by Shorten's willingness to announce a significant policy platform in some areas. I'm guessing it's at least partly because the Coalition has pulled so far to the right.
