Default reusing mattresses from first child for #2

as the title suggests, is it ok to reuse bassinet, cot, etc mattresses from your first for your second bub? ds was born in 2016, so we would’ve purchased his mattresses etc late 2015. i’ve kept his bassinet and cot mattresses. should these be ok to reuse? or do i need to wash/air/do something to them to clean them?

bassinet mattress has been stored wrapped in plastic, so would probably be good to air it out. cot mattresses was slept on by ds until october last year and has since been moved into the spare room/what will be baby’s room and is just sitting in the cot. i’ve left a sheet on it as a dust cover.

is there anything in particular i should do before putting the second baby on these mattresses?

I would think they're ok providing the cot mattress is still pretty firm. Maybe steam clean and air them?

Can’t see why not, spot clean if needed and maybe a day in the sun.

There is 4 1/2 years between my two and i reused the cot mattress. It was wrapped and kept in the house between use. I just gave it a steam clean and aired outside

DS2 used DS1’s old bassinet and cot mattress (2.5 years between them). They always had mattress protectors on them so didn’t ever get “dirty” anyway. I think the only way I’d be replacing something like that would be if there was staining or soiling.
