Tuck shop daily? Lazy parenting or genius

What are tuckshops serving these days? 20 years ago it was expensive junk but I’m guessing that’s changed.

We went to an online system last year, so don't have a current menu, but this was the menu from 2017. Not much has changed I don't think. It's a mix of healthy and not so healthy. I don't think the prices are unreasonable as most things are made fresh onsite, but it's still more than me making it.

In highschool I had a cheese salad roll from the tuck shop every day for lunch.
Our kids highschool tuckshop is largely junk food, and expensive.

Primary school they have healthy meals...all home made, only thing bought in is sushi. However it only opens one day a week and you have to order and pay in cash two days before so rarely order as I never carry cash.

When DD has been at schools with canteen available every day, I have always used it more as a 'treat'. Great for bribery-required situations, eg. If you're good at this boring event on the weekend, you can have a lunch order on Monday etc.

That said, in all the schools I've worked at or had my child at, tuckshop lunch has never been comparable in price to a packed lunch (eg. Less than $1.50 for a meat and salad sandwich). A full lunch box (lunch, 2-3 snacks, 1-2 fruit) made by me costs around $4-5 depending on the fruit chosen

If it is cheap and healthy, then it would be a great option. Many canteens are now catering for BYO containers as well (traditionally lots of litter in a lunch order).

I couldnt justify the cost so mine have lunch orders once a week on fridays.

I have 3 at school this year and i expect that one day of lunch orders will cost me close to $15.
Plus theyll still need fruit and snacks that day
