    Default Girl name help

    Hi,
I'm starting to ponder names now that I am about halfway through the pregnancy. We already have 2 boys, and I have a couple of boys names I really love (but have to convince DH!). I'm struggling with girls' names, though. For both our boys we had 2 girls names we loved, but since then a cousin and a close friend have used one of them, so that's our, and I'm not so sure about the other any more.

I have a list of girls' names that I like, but I'm just not finding that one that I absolutely LOVE above the rest. Actually, I really like Mabel, but surname starts with L, so it doesn't go so well bc you sort of get stuck on the Ls joining together.

I'd love some suggestions. The sorts of names I like are fairly traditional, no strange spellings. Some of them are:

    Charlotte
    Tessa
    Chloe
    Sophia
    Zoe
    Georgia

Hit me with some more ideas! Thanks!

    Matilda
    Harriet
    Emily
    Amelia
    Kate

ETA I've always loved Poppy, but it may not be traditional enough for you.

Eloise (obviously, as I just had one haha)
    Ruby
    Amelia
    Isabelle
    Kristina
    Anneliese
Eleanor ( I liked it, hubby hated it)
and the latest name I'm loving at the moment is Marianne

    I too, detest weird spelling!

    Millicent
    Jemima
    Alice
    Grace
    Iris
    Ivy
    Molly
    Penelope (Penny)
    Imogen
    Astrid
    Annabelle
    Maisie
    Jasmine
    Dawn

I like the names you've listed, but some of them are quite popular. I'd pick Tessa from that bunch because it's less common. I also really like Mabel, but I agree it doesn't flow so well with your surname.

I’m a little biased because I have three girls and two of their names are on your list! We used an app called kinder where we could swipe if we liked names or not and found we got a short list and then from there we shortened it again and had one stand out that we really loved. We toyed with other names in the few weeks before but ultimately it felt like we already both knew she was the original name and it suits her perfectly.

Are you concerned about popularity of names? If so, just keep that in mind as Charlotte/Chloe/Zoe are very popular.

I like Tessa off of your list as it’s the least popular.

But of all the other suggestions I think Millicent is just beautiful! A little Milly.

    Snap.

FWIW despite the popularity of my girl's names they haven't had any issues with being one of ten in their grade. At most there has only been one other child with the same name in the grade in primary (around 100 kids) and two or three others in highschool (with over 300 in the grade) and it hasn't been issue with them needing to be know by their surname.

Strangely enough there are more double ups of uncommon names like Aaliyah and huge number of similar sounding names e Kira, Chiara, Kiarna with many spelling variations.

Oh and in DD1's grade there were two girls with the same uncommon first name / common surname combo so they needed to be known by first name, middle name, surname.

So having said all that, I wouldn't let name popularity turn you off your list. They are all nice names and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Charlotte is one of the top ones of our list too but I'm also a bit worried about how common it will be. Last year it was the most common name in most states. I don't mind having them have a common name but not sure I'd want it to be that common.
