    Default Immunization Question

    Hello,
My bub was born almost 6 weeks ago, at 38 weeks. She was scheduled for an ultrasound this week, but the technician declined to do the ultrasound saying that she is the corrected age of only 4 weeks so we would need to wait an extra 2 weeks.

He went on to say that she will be behind for all developmental milestones etc so we should factor that in for immunizations.

Has anyone ever been told this before? Should we wait an extra 2 weeks before having her 2month immunizations done?

    Thanks!

38 weeks is full term. That technician has no idea. You baby was not early

My twins were preterm and I was told their vaccinations go off actual age, not corrected. And as above, 38 is “term”

A lot of vaccines actually state that studies have not been done on the safety of using their products on preterm babies - or straight out say it’s not suitable? Can’t quite remember. Maybe check the package insert of the relevant vaccines (find the name & drug company from the Australian vaccination schedule & a quick google will come up with the companies website & package insert for each vaccine)

But then as someone else mentioned surely 38 weeks is not “preterm”?

My baby was born by caesar at 38 weeks. Obstetrician said that was term and she has had all her vaccinations at her actual age- not adjusted by 2 weeks. No dr, nurse, obs, midwife or sonographer has said to do otherwise.

Id also let the manager of the clinic know this person is giving oit incorrect information to patients so no one else gets misinformed by them. 38 weeks and onwards is at term.

Oh and she had to have 2 hip ultrasounds due to being breech and they were both done at her actual age because that's what my obstetrician said to do, sonographer was fine with it. No one said she needed to be adjusted for anything health or milestone related.
