Hubby and i are looking at buying our first house and are so unsure what suburbs to look at.
What suburb or area do you live in and why do you love it, or would you recommend it?

I’m in one of the coastal suburbs near Joondalup and love it round that area. Beautiful beaches and the amenities needed (lakeside shopping centre etc)

Really depends on your lifestyle/interests and work locations. My hubby and I hate to commute/spend time in traffic jams so chose our suburb around that and to still be near friends and places we like to go for lunch etc. We are about 15 mins from Fremantle (our fave place), 5 minutes from the freeway/train station, 10 mins from shopping centres and 10-15 mins from the closest beach.

Have you been living in Perth? Do you know the city well?

Do you have children? Are the types of local schools important to you?

Thanks @Yogis Mumma we do know Perth well but not the reputation of certain areas or certain schools, obviously we arent basing our decision on that alone, but its hard to know what an area is really like unless someone you know lives there.

Most people tend to pick North or South of the river to start with, thinking about if you prefer something more coastal, inland or up in the hills.

We aren't particularly "beachy" people, but we don't like the heat so we like living near the coast for the early sea breeze. Although we live in a fairly new area we're both only about 30 mins from work, 5 mins from a train station and a great local school. We've been here for 5 years and the infrastructure and other local amenities are continuing to grow. We built the house and initially thought we might stay for maybe 10 years to gain some equity, but we really love it and think we'll stay for a lot longer.

You've got to decide what you want to be close to and how far away from other things you're willing to travel, then have more of a look into the reputation of the areas which fit your criteria.

I live in Bicton now, after living north of the river (Ashby, Hillarys, Aveley) since forever. I LOVE south of the river. Our suburb has a brilliant school, the river is walking distance, Fremantle and all the activities for kids is not even a 10min drive. I’ve been here for 4 years and love it

Are you considering any particular suburbs or north/south of river?
