@Mamasupial you sew lots of knits, do you have a coverstitch machine? If not, what stitch do you use for hems what fit snug (sleeves, legging legs etc)? I keep avoiding knits as I either get wavy hems or hems that break when being taken on/off!

I do have a coverstitch however before that i used hemming tapr then sewed over it. A long straight stitch generally.

Awesome, thanks. I do think I need to bite the bullet an get a coverstitch machine. DD is only 11 but is a ladies' 10 already - but even some of those are a bit short in the leg. Would just be better if I could custom make more of the sorts of thing she likes to wear.

I did my back ripping up floor boards yesterday, so got to prioritise sewing over home renovations today! This linen-cotton blend has been sitting cut out for about 2 months, so got around to putting it together. It's lined with cotton lawn - just needs a zip (and an iron!!) as it turns out my bottomless pit of zips I bought on clearance 15 years ago has finally dwindled to almost nothing! Took half an hour longer than needed thanks to my overlocker being a sensitive turd when it comes to rethreading!linen dress.jpg

It was a 60s pattern, so I had to pull out some old school skills, such as gathering the shoulders to ease.
