what fabric are you after? white velvet? there’s a heap of stores in melb that would sell communion dresses and prob have a better range than perth. but i don’t get if you’re after fabric or a dress lol

No just the fabric, I can make the dress. No white velvet in Perth, and none that I can find online. There is one chinese ebay seller but they're cut into squares not 'buy by the metre'. I've even been looking at Sammies and Vinnies for fabric that I can cut.

We might have to go back to Fabulous Fabrics, there was a wool blend that she liked but had a print on the bottom 1/3rd of it, so would be a very expensive purchase. Seems she likes the texture of the fabrics!

Franke Stewart always used to be the place to go in Melbourne (Hawthorn) for bridal fabrics, silks, laces, velvets, etc. I haven't been there in years but google says it still exists.

    Hi ladies,
I have never posted on this thread but I always check out all your sewing. You are all very talented.
I'm not very good at sewing, but would like to make a lovey/comforter for a friends child.
Would any of you have an idea on the best material to use for it?
Also where online is best for material and that doenst cost a fortune.
    Thanks so much

Thanks Stretched, I'll check that out.

Tourquoisecoast - I'm just grateful she's chosen something plain, it has turned into a really big deal for some of the families with massive gowns, after parties etc - I'm grateful she's keeping it real. She will use another fabric if we can't get velvet but given I have time I thought i'd put the feelers out.
