Will you be anywhere near Canberra?

When I lived in Canberra there was a geneticist who visited The Canberra Hospital once a month who arranged genetic testing of my DD. They had a genetic counsellor there but not a geneticist. I doubt things have changed since we left.

Yeh we will only be about 2.5 hours from Canberra. Is it like a talk to the GP and get referrals and numbers, or ring and ask the hospital type thing

Talk to the GP I guess. DD she was born prematurely and some genetic testing was done on her at birth due to problems picked up during pregnancy. The hospital made the appointments for us. The Canberra Hospital NICU covered Canberra and surrounding NSW, I'm guessing that's the same for paeds appts and you will be referred to The Canberra Hospital and not Sydney.

ETA DD also qualified for free Early Intervention as we were residents of the ACT - free assessments, free speech pathology, early intervention playgroup, early intervention preschool. I'm not sure if you would be able to access any of those services or not.

Yeh we are underneath Canberra so quite a ways from Sydney still. For Early Intervention we come under Wagga area and the lady basically said they will assess whether his services get covered by NDIS or if we have to pay.

    Default Baby has odd behaviours

Your GP should be able to arrange genetic testing. DS had his done at the children’s hospital (referral from our paed) but my DD and I just used at-home swab tests that were given to us by the genetic counselor.

Oh I should add that DD's was done in hospital because she needed blood and skin tests (they cut a small piece of skin out of her arm). Plus exh and I needed blood tests. They were looking for a specific chromosomal condition.

Righto. I have a GP appointment tomorrow to get the Early Intervention referral done. I might just ask him what’s involved
