Default Have you had an iron transfusion?

If so, do you remember what your iron levels were?

I have but I can’t remember, what I do remember is that my stupid hospital made me check for b12 then have those injections over 3 wks and it was still low, so by the time I had another antenatal appointment and they said yes it was 10 wks until I finally got it done, for those full 10 wks I was shattered and did not enjoy my pregnancy one bit, so cranky with them, but once I had it done, after a couple of weeks I felt amazingly good!

A friend was recommended an iron transfusion when her ferritin level was 7. I believe between 12-150 is considered normal

That's crazy. My level was 4. I asked for one and was denied.

I spent my entire pregnancy really unwell due to low iron and was not offered one and actually refused one. Such garbage! So glad you feel better now.

That *is* crazy. Can you above the head of who you were speaking with, is there a head of department or other midwife you can talk with?

I had an iron infusion. Initially my hemoglobin levels were around 50-60 so I had a number of blood transfusions then when it got back up to around 80 I had an iron infusion. Hemoglobin levels should be greater than 110. What are your levels of hemaglobin?

I am not sure what the levels of ferritin iron should be.

When comparing levels make sure you are comparing like for like and the units are being compared properly.

@MissTwiggley that’s shocking that you were denied one, I had to actually buy the iron solution form the chemist and take it to our hospital where they administered it, low iron levels can cause pp hemmorage, if it happens to me again, I will by pass the hospital and just get my gp/nurse to administer it if I can.

This was during pregnancy. Bub is 4mo now. I wish I had challenged it to be honest. I was suffering from major anxiety and depression at that time and could barely just attend appointments.

I still feel really poorly though.

Ferritin should be 15 and above.

My Hb was 102. Ferritin 4.

How did you manage with 50-60?
