Yes, I’m trying to find a doctor who will take my concerns seriously. As much as I love my OB, she keeps telling me it’s bad luck & that we can go back to ivf whenever we want. It’s getting too much emotionally & financially to keep going through this but at the same time I want another baby more than anything in the world. It just seems so unfair when others seem to have a baby so easily!

I’ve had a lot of genetic testing & so has hubby. Nothings really come up which is why I think my doctor keeps saying it’s bad luck. But surely it can’t be this much bad luck! I’m hoping to see another doctor just to see what they say then try to go from there. If there’s something wrong I just want to know what it is & decide what to do from there.

At the moment I’m terrified of getting pregnant & going through this again.
I'm really glad you have replied to my post as it is really nice to have someone in a similar situation to talk to. I don't know anyone who has even been close to this situation, and am surrounded by pregnancies and families with more than one child. It's helped me not to feel so alone, even though I am really sorry you are also in this position xx

I know what you mean- it feels so unfair and I find it extremely isolating. I am struggling dealing with work and I avoid a lot of social stuff cos I find just too hard, i don't have the energy. I feel the same, I just want another baby so badly.

I don't think it can be bad luck - especially not with the timing always being really similar etc. It feels like there has to be a reason.

Have you looked into natural killer cells? It is something I am wondering about but is not tested for here.

When you did IVF does that give the specialists an idea about egg quality etc? If we go down the PGS route , all it will do is remove miscarriages due to chromosomal issues and I'm not convinced thats the problem. The only one we have tested had no issues. I will test this time as well i guess to try to get more info.

I totally get what you are saying about being scared to get pregnant. I don't want to sound ungrateful about this, but it's actually a curse in my situation, but I get pregnant extremely easily, as soon as I try. So i feel like I pretty much *know* that I am signing up for another pregnancy and miscarriage. Not that appealing!!

Where are you guys at currently? Are you trying to get the second opinion and some more info before trying again or trying now?

People say that i should have a break but I am freaked about time and my age as well. And even if you have a break it's not like you stop thinking about it and wanting it.

I’m glad it’s helped replying to your post You’re exactly right, it’s so isolating & most people don’t understand what you’re going through or the anxiety over being pregnant again. I’m hearing you about work & catching up with friends, as it’s really hard when they have lots of young kids. I never thought we’d be in this position & always saw myself with 3 kids haha. I currently have 3 friends who all have newborns which is all their 2nd child. They were all born around a miscarriage I previously had when my due date would’ve been. I hate sitting there & being the only one without a baby. And it’s so hard when people ask when are you going to have a 2nd.

We did ivf because we had tried for years & years with no luck. When they retrieve all the eggs they only keep the good quality ones. I haven’t done any further testing on our embryos as when we have a miscarriage the baby has always tested fine. I’m refusing to try anymore until at least the end of the year. I haven’t asked my specialist about NKC’s but will ask. I know she’s tested for a heap of things & not sure if that was part of it or not. Is there any specialists where you are that test for it? So hard when you just want answers!!

The other thing I was tested for was blood clotting disorders as apparently that can be behind a lot of recurrent miscarriage too but I didn’t have it. That was just one blood test & I couldn’t believe no one had tested for it before.

That’s great you get pregnant easily but at the same time I understand how daunting that would be too. It’s a lot you’ve gone through & I understand the anxiety about trying again. It’s horrible going through this a few times let alone continuously. What has your doctor suggested? Have they monitored your progesterone levels each time? My doctor also has me on daily aspirin when pregnant which is meant to help but hasn’t.

Yeah I’m holding off trying until the end of the year. I’m hoping to have gotten a 2nd opinion by then. The doctor I want to go to isn’t where I live so it might take me a few months to organise everything.

It’s so hard when all you want is to hold another little baby & to give your child you have a sibling. I look at my daughter getting older & the age gap widening a lot.

I also feel because I already have one child the doctor doesn’t take it as seriously as she keeps saying well we know you can do it. I just don’t get what’s changed so much from my daughters pregnancy to now.

I hope we both get our answers & can both get our little ones to take home

I am also very sorry to hear about your situation. Five miscarriages must be devastating.

I have had two miscarriages and have been tested to a DQ Alpha gene match. The theory is that if you and your partner match, your immune system does not properly recognise the embryo and can attack it, preventing proper implementation. Often a first pregnancy will be successful, but subsequent pregnancies are not. This theory however is not universally accepted.

If you are planning on going to Sydney, there are specialists there who test for the match. Immune suppression is a common treatment.

Thank you very much for your kind reply. Yes I must admit, we are really struggling now.

Thanks for the info about DQ alpha gene testing. I think this is something I should def consider testing for.

I have organised a phone consultation with a Sydney specialist for the end of the month. Hopefully this is something I can get tested for.

If you don't mind me asking, did you end up having the treatment?

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Oh gosh you poor thing having 3 friends with newborns and especially around your due date. It's just so cruel.

I hate it when people ask about having a second too - I think people assume cos we have had one the next one will come easily so they feel free to ask these questions. And yes, I agree re the doctor not necessarily taking it so seriously cos we have managed it in the past.

Good idea re taking a bit of time to get your second opinion.

I am feeling a bit more on top of things from a practical perspective today. D&c is booked for Wednesday and i went to the GP today who was supportive of other testing including MTHFR (not sure if you have done that).

Yes I have also been tested for blood clotting issues, nothing came up but I took aspirin for this most recent pregnancy and they also had me on progesterone and my levels were fine.

Next steps are pretty limited- keep going as we are or try IVF with PGS which i guess would give us more info re my eggs.

I have booked a phone consultation with a Sydney reproductive immunologist for the end of the month to talk about whether testing for NKC or DQ alpha gene makes sense for me.

I will keep in touch with any new info or pearls of wisdom i learn!! 😁

Oh I’m so sorry, I didn’t realise you hadn’t had the D&C yet. I hope it all went ok! That’s what I ended up choosing too. I found it a little bit more challenging recovering this time around. I hope you’re going ok afterwards, it can be hard!

That’s great you’ve got a phone consult at the end of the month. I’d love to hear how that goes!! It’s so hard all of this, trying to find answers & trying to make sense of what could of happened.

I’ve got an appointment with another doctor for early September. I’m really excited to see my doctor again as he is the one I went through when I had my daughter He rang me the other day to tell me he looked at all my bloods I’ve had done & said my doctor hasn’t even tested me for the basic things after so many losses He’s sending me a whole heap of blood tests forms in the mail (as I live away) so will have to see what they are. Apparently it’s a lot of tests! I’m just hoping like everyone else to try & get some sort of answer.

I’ve been thinking of you & hope you’ve been going ok as can be. All of this is just so hard. xx

Thank you x D&c was fine thanks but same as you I am finding recovery a bit tougher this time around.  I'm just feeling worn out and not up to much which doesn't really work with a toddler haha.

So sad and finding it hard to pick myself up this time and get motivated and positive again.  The future just feels sad and scary. I spose it's still early days.

Hey that's great you have an appointment organised for September.  It feels better knowing you have something sorted doesn't it? How annoying though that it looks like lots of basic tests haven't been done.  So frustrating.  Fingers crossed one of them holds the answer for you.

I will definitely keep you posted after my appointment.

One thing I forgot to mention that a nutritionist mentioned to me was that coeliac or gluten sensitivity can lead to miscarriage/ fertility issues so that might be something else you want to consider testing for.

Thinking of you too and hope you are as ok as can be expected.  Talk soon xx
