Default Sydney Male Infertility Specialist Recommendations

I'm new to bubhub but I'm feeling quite overwhelmed and hoping to find some support and advice...

A few years ago my husband and I were told we would need to use a sperm donor, due to zero count. It's taken us quite some to to accept this and take another step towards starting a family.

Not long ago we saw Dr Lok in Sydney CBD. I'd heard great things about him but I did not feel comfortable pursuing treatment with him. I felt he rushed our consult and became irritable with me when I asked questions about the process ahead. Maybe I caught him on an off day...I don't know.

Our GP has now referred us to Dr Shaikh, in Westmead. On a whole Westmead Fertility seems to have very poor reviews online.

I'm feeling very anxious as this journey is soo emotionally tolling, in addition to becoming quite expensive.

Can anyone give me any advice, feedback or suggestions on the best doctor / clinic to use in Sydney when dealing with zero sperm count and possibly using a donor sperm to start a family.

Thank you in advance! It's all I want in this world, to be a mother, so my emotions are all over the place trying to navigate through this next step in our lives...

Hi there, has your DH tried the TESE procedure to try to extract sperm?
I had a great experience with Westmead but like most places yes the reviews are mixed. I can vouch for Dr Smith, Dr Fong and Dr Bradbury as being excellent

@BlueStar83 I had the same experience as you with Dr Lok, exactly the same experience. He did not like being asked any questions because he thinks your questioning his abilities.

Dr Lok is very good with retrieving sperm using TESE.. Does your husband have no sperm at all or is it due to a vasectomy?

    Thank you for your reply

One of the first specialists we saw believes that it wouldn't be worth our while pursuing that and the chances for success would be very low.
Dr Lok offered this to us as a treatment option but I just didn't feel comfortable with him or our consult outcome.

Thank you for your feedback on Westmead. Would you mind if I ask if you had similar hurdles to what I'm facing?

I'm just hoping to find the most suitable doctor to help us through this journey...

Wow, I thought it was just me being over emotional so it's some relief I'm not the only one with this experience.
I've still considered if I just grit my teeth and go through with treatment as I hear he is good at what he does. It's just hard when it's such a huge cost and I feel restricted to ask questions so I fully understand what we are about to go through.

We've been told he has zero sperm count...

Hey, I'm so sorry you're going through this tough journey. Our situation isn't the same but my DH has a very low sperm count and we are doing IVF with ICSI with Monash IVF. Our doctor - Dr Peter Benny always takes a lot of time to go through things with us (I always have loads of questions!) He is also extremely experienced having been involved in IVF since it's very early days. Wishing you all the best, it's a tough thing to go through.

My dh is azoospermic. We went through Dr Perrson and Dr Golovsky at IVFA. He had the microTESE done and no sperm was found and we now have 2 children from donor. There is plenty of advice and help over on the azzospermia pages if you need anything

Hi there, my partner and I are in the same boat. I'm just wondering, could you tell me what his FSH levels were? My partners is 14 and our specialist said that there's a 50/50 chance of MicroTESE working for us. Thanks

Hi BlueStar - I'm wondering how everything is going? WHat had you decided to do? My partner and I are now going through the same situation - 0 sperm count with FSH level at 14. I'm hoping you can tell me a little more about your journey?
    Thanks,

    Hi Rinavenez

My DH’s FSH was 31. They gave us 50/50 but unfortunately didn’t go our way
