My FS wouldn’t support me doing DE in cape town - only through their clinic in Australia - so I also went to my gp. They wouldn’t give me all the prescriptions though (namely synarel) so I tried different gps until I got one as a private prescription, which meant I had to pay a bunch for it.

Hi there. Has anyone done a low/no medicated fet in CFC. I'm over all the hormones and feel like we need to do something different to what we have been doing. X

    Hi Ladies

I am new to the forum and am wondering if anyone can help me re: meds. We are booked to go to South Africa for a third time in mid November (first time resulted in our DS (2014), second was a FET (Jan, 2017) that didn't work) and those other times, as I wasn't able to get the meds here after asking a couple of GPs, I used the International Pharmacy in London which was costly but worked.

I am going to give my GP another go this week as I can see on here that some of you have had success getting them through GPs and I have also tracked down the Dr M that is being referred to on the forum so will try contacting him. But can anyone tell me how that works, eg, how long to get an appointment, my chances of success getting the meds etc. I need them quite soon so am getting nervous about not being able to get them. I can try the international pharmacy again but they recommend having a script from an Australian Dr also (can't remember if that was the case the last couple of times I ordered them and whether I just lucked out getting them through customs).

Sorry for long post, just freaking out a bit as I am using a new clinic (used CFC for last two and they were amazing) and the nurse coordinating just doesn't seem to get it (ie, doesn't understand why I can't just go to a local Dr and get them - not sure how many Australian couples she's dealt with and whether she understands the delicacy and complexity of the situation).

    Thanks,
    Lilly

Welcome @Lilly42. I iused only a GP in Aus (p;lus Dr M) and had no problem getting Syneral from a bulk billing GP. I walked in with the CFC email that specified the medication and dosage needed and showed it to the Dr who wrote the script, GP's can prescribe Syneral but not for Reproductive purposes (I can't remember what they can prescribe it for) but I know lots will write it if shown a Specialist request for it. FS's can write the script for IVF purposes hence one reason some people keep their Aussie FS going while going OS.

When I was seeing dr M, I think I had a 6w lead period before my 1st appt but I hve no idea if that is standard or just at that time I would call and speak to his Secretary Gwyneth asap.

    Good luck with Project Sibling.

@ Lilly42, welcome.. As Cathy69, I’ve also just used bulk billing GP for the prescriptions & had no problem.
Dr M, the earliest app l could get is in 4weeks, unless you want a phone consultation.
    Good luck 🤞

    Thanks, Bizmark!

I don't suppose you or Cathy69 are in Sydney? Is there anyway of getting your GP's details? I just don't think my GP will as she wouldn't the last two times and I've made an appointment with Dr M but first available is 23 October and I am due to start meds a week after that so if he doesn't give them to me, I'm kind of in trouble! Or I just go Dr shopping...

    @Lilly42

I’m in Sydney. Doctor Sophie Roberts of Fountain Street Medical Centre in Alexandria gave me my script. Not sure if that works for you? She gave it to me as a private script, however, which meant that I had to pay $180 for one bottle. But by then I didn’t care. And that type of script allows you to reorder as many as you like - it’s not limited.

It’s so frustrating when your GP doesn’t come to the party - I know. Happened to me.

    You can book online.

Like the others have said, bring all your Cape Town letters and emails to show Sophie what they have requested.

Be careful with the Synarel, it runs out before you think it will because the bottle is heavyish, and you think there’s heaps left, but there isn’t!

    Good luck!

Chmeille, thank you, thank you, thank you!

I will try booking with her. I have never done Synarel, only the depot injection which was really easy, did you try to get that at all? or will she only prescribe the synarel?

The cost is not an issue in fact that sounds cheap to me (it cost $1,000 through the online pharmacy so I'm used to paying a small fortune for meds!)

    Thanks again!

I didn’t try the depot injection, only because in my OE cycles here in Oz, I had been prescribed Synarel and it worked well for me. So I figured I’d use it again for the DE cycle as it was already tried and tested. But definitely ask.

Default Egg Donation in South Africa #16

@ Lilly42. Dr Natalie or any of the doctors there. If you call & she’s busy ask for Dr Louise she’s great, talks a lot but you’ll get what you want. They are at 160 Mowbray Rd, Willoughby 2065. As Chmeille says just show your emails. Good luck
