    Default Nt test: Down syndrome

Hi all, new to this website and really looking for some help.
I have recieved the results for the down syndrome scan (Ultra sound) and my chances are:
1:890, and my NT: 2.8 CRL: 64.0. and Nasal Bone Present.
The doctor told me 2.8 is on the higher side. Im really worried because I am only 21, and combined with the chance (1:890) and the NT being high is really scary.

If anyone could offer any advice id really appreciate it.
    Thank you

    Hi and welcome!
The risk ratio you have been given, is the combined first trimester screening correct (blood and scan)? If so, the ratio has taken into consideration the results of both the blood and the scan.
Did your doctor recommend any further testing? You can have further testing using NIPT - these are $450+ but are very accurate for the chromosomal abnormalities they screen for. If you are scared, this is what I would be looking into. You can ask your GP for further info and referral.
Remember the first trimester screening tool is not diagnostic. And another way to look at your results: your likelihood of having a healthy (of screened abnormalities) baby is 889 to 1 - if that makes sense.

Hello and thank you for your reply, when I first recieved the results I was told 1:890 was not high risk but I also know ladies who had 1:3000 and just combined with the 2.8 result, ive been really stressed
I have just had the NIPT blood test done today, so have a nervous week to wait..

    My CRL: 64.0
    NT:2.80
    Nasal Bone: Present
    Free HCG- 2.8 MOM
    PAPA: 1.8 MOM
    Nuchal Translucency: 1.74

The screening result said "negative" was just wanting to hear other ladies experience with this

That is not high risk. It's just a guide anyway. I know a mum who was given 1:30000 and her boy has T21. Others got 1:10 and their kids don't.
Keep in mind NIPT is not diagnostic and if you're 21 you have a very high chance of getting a false positive. The only way to really know is with an amniocentesis but you stand a high risk of miscarrying.
You will love your child and they will love you regardless of the number of chromosomes they have. I know ❤️
Try to relax and enjoy your baby.
