Questions for experienced mommies here.. what other assessment have you done with your kiddo aside from ASD assessment? How often do you see your Paediatrician? My son is going to Speech and OT and that's about it... I feel like I need to do more to help him. Do we need to see a Psychologist? who request for a Psychologist appointment? I know too many questions but I have been thinking about this for a few months now.
Thank you in advance for your answers.
We got our referral from the Paed from memory, but i am pretty sure you can get the referral from a GP as well.

Both my boys have reports from all specialists. O.T, Speech, Psych and yes the initial ASD assessment.
We also have the ENQ assessment, which I think only Victoria does, but it's a very thorough report done by all the specialists in one big report to help towards school funding. Even though it is for that it's a very detailed report.
Otherwise I make it a point to update the reports once a year at least. You never know who will come out asking for up to date stuff...

We have my sister's wedding tomorrow. I am nervous as.
It looks like DS2 might be unwell today.. which is really bad timing.

@White Mage good luck for your sister's wedding tomorrow! Fingers crossed DS2 fights off whatever sickness he is getting so he's not too miserable.

Hey all - I just got a call from DH who did school drop off this morning - looks like DS is transitioning to full time mains.tream in week 7 We thought it wouldn't be until next year.

His current teacher assures us he doesn't belong in the support class any more and he needs to be challenged by being in the mains.tream class. I'm sure she's right, but I'm nervous as it's such a huge step!

Would love some advice about what to expect when you have an ASD child in a mains.tream class. Obviously I need to talk to the school in depth about it all and schedule a meeting with his new teacher, but what else is important to know/do?

I think we'll have to brace ourselves for some possibly difficult behaviour at home while he adjusts.

Thank you so much @Degrassi and @White Mage last time we saw our Psych for assessment she said my son does not need Psych just use the funding for speech and OT it's what my son needs more.
Good news for your son @Degrassi... there will be hard times for sure but they come and go. On my sons first term at school my husband and I are always on the edge of our seat because we might get a call from school. Now he is doing OK and he is starting to copy what other kids are doing... Inclusion is very good for our kids as they copy what they see and hear from typical kids at school. Good luck to both of you!!

Wedding was beautiful. My sister was magnificent.
It rained and stormed, but it didn't at the right times.

DS1 did a great job doing his job. Ds2 sadly had to be out the entirety of the ceremony, both DH and I tagged teamed... just reminded me why the christianing was a no go.
DH drove the boys home after photos.

Glad the wedding went well @White Mage.

Has anyone taken their ASD kid/s to a funeral before? My nan passed away on Tuesday night and the funeral will be next week. DS only met her a few times when he was littler, so I don't imagine he'll get upset, but I imagine he'll be a bit unpredictable during the service (DH will be able to take him outside if need be).

If you decide to go, sit near the back near the exit, that way you can sneak in and out when need be.
If it's someone's funeral that you really were connected to, perhaps going without DS would be a good option, just incase you cry you know?
It's a really emotion packed situation.

I am really sorry for your loss Degrassi

Iā€™m sorry for your loss @Mod-Degrassi

We took DS to his great grandmothers funeral a few months ago and he was really well behaved. We did sit near the front - FIL insisted that DSs granny would want him up front. I was prepared to duck out with him if need be but he say cuddling df the whole time. He knew df was upset and was happy to sit with him.

Thought I would share. The professional photographer (and my Dad's god daughter) gave me my photo she was nice to take of us at my sister's wedding last week. received_1105483056269263.jpg

@Mod-Degrassi Sorry to hear about your Nan. We haven't been in this situation so can't help much, but it sounds like you've got a good backup if needed (with DH available to take him out).

How are plans going for the transition into the new class? So exciting and nerve wracking all at once I imagine. As you said, definitely line up a meeting with the new teacher and come up with some ideas to help smooth the transition. Given that there's a support unit there I imagine the school would have some good ideas to help with the process. You could potentially consider a social story for your DS if you feel like it would be helpful so he knows what to expect. How much time has he spent in the mains.tream classroom this year so far?
