Default TTC baby 1 - PCOS + Ovulation induction

TTC baby 1 - PCOS + Ovulation induction
    Hi All,
We are TTC baby number 1 - here is my story so far
    - got off pill as soon as we got married
    - didn't get a period for 6 months, saw a GP. They said not to worry its normal after getting off the pull.
    - got period once in 12 months
    - got serious about TTC - saw a gyno/fertility specialist
    - did testing - found out I had PCOS
    - tried 1 cycle with tablets to induce period and ovulation - no success
    - tried 2 cycles with ovulation induction using injectables of Puregon and scan monitoring with timed intercorse - no success
    - had operation to remove dermoid cyst on ovaries
    - in the process now of cycle 4 using injectables of puregon - have my 10 day scan on Tuesday to see size of eggs and start timed intercorse.

    Soooo.... That's my story.....

I am just looking for a friend who is going through something similar to me, i feel like I am the only one going through this and it's hard to stay positive :-(.

    Hi Cheryl,

Your story sounds very similar to mine. I found out that I had PCOS in December after going off birth control and since then my cycles range from 100 to 167 days but I never ovulate. I am currently doing my first cycle of Letrozole to induce ovulation taking 5mg and have piggybacked in the same cycle. The first scan after the second dose has shown that I am not responding. I have one more scan to go on Friday and if there has been no response then I will move on to injections. I absolutely hate needles but hate how long all the cycles take more so happy to move to injections if they will work. I have been remaining hopeful this entire time but starting to lose faith that these treatments will work as I believe my PCOS is quite bad. I understand your frustrations, I just hate how long everything takes!

My story isn’t the same as yours, but just wanted to assure you you’re not alone.

We’ve done a few tracking cycles and 2 IUI’s. Even though I do have PCOS I do ovulate fine on my own so never used drugs to induce ovulation. We do have male factor as well, husband has a low count. Our next step is IVF.

Good luck - this place is wonderfully supportive, and you’ll learn so much as well

    Hi Cherry,

I am 100% in your position and i am also struggling to remain positive.

My story; my partner and i have been together 5 years and decided to ttc once we returned from overseas travel (2 years abroad). I had been on nuvaring contraception for 8 years and took it out at xmas last year so 7 months ago. I knew i had what i was told 'slight' PCOS from a gynecologist since i was 21 when i was diagnosed with insulin resistance due to extreme fatigue. I have never had heavy or painful periods or anything like that just super inconsistent ie months and months without a period when not on contraception. So i was prescribed metformin for my insulin which worked a treat and fixed my fatigue. Only problem was gynecologist forgot to mention increased fertility and so 1st unprotected sex and i was pregnant. I was too young and not ready so made the tough decision to abort.

Fast fwd to now; i do not present typical PCOS symptoms externally- i am not short, have great skin and not overly hairy. I dont have a deeper voice etc. That being said i am VERY textbook PCOS internally. My AMH level is the highest my FS has ever seen at 241. And yes they even retested this!

Currently on 1st cycle ovulation induction. At first was no dominant follicles so they were going to cancel pending 1.more ultrsound but then there were dominant follices all of a sudden one on each ovary. My hormones have been jumping around but they decided to trigger shot w pregnl last monday and had timed intercourse. However they did my mid luteal bloods Wednesday (yesterday) and my progesterone is super low at 0.8 so now im on progesterone suppositories and a combo oestrogen and progesterone at night. So they cant even really tell if i even ovulated 😓

So trying to get my oestrogen up before blood test Monday. Not feeling overly hopeful though. Never thought this would be so hard!

In summary to my novel you are not alone xx

I just turned 36 and found out in January 2018 that I have PCOS after trying for a year without any luck and experiencing irregular cycles to find out that I wasn’t ovulating regularly. I have had 9 failed cycles with oral ovulation induction medications. 3 cycles of clomid, 3 cycles of letrozole and 3 cycles of clomid with metformin. We have had numerous scans and timed intercourse according but still not luck. I have just started injecting FSH- puregon daily and have a scan in 2 days time to see how follicles are developing. I have found this whole process extremely emotionally draining and difficult. Has anyone here had any luck falling pregnant with FSH injections? I have 2 cycles of this to try before moving on to IVF.

For those who are going through Ovulation Induction... I'm about to start on Levlen. Do I need to take the white sugar pills - stupid question, but it's too late in the day to call my doctor and check!

I'm also PCOS since 16 yo, im 31 now TTC for 2 yrs. My husband and I are both reasonably healthy, he's got good sperm count the only problem is my ovulation. FS told me last year we could try ovulation induction first thru meds but over the course of a year, IVF is more controlled because every aspect of the treatment is timed and measured, and it could take many tries with clomid, so we went with his advice which is IVF.

FSH injections with PCOS produces a lot of eggs, mix of mature and immature follicles. With my IVF egg retrieval I had 25 eggs, 15 of which were mature. That's common with PCOS accdg to my FS.

I guess different FS will have different approach. Some regard IVF as last resort and start with conservative approach first. We PCOS ladies respond well to FSH injections most of the time. Good luck... It is an emotional journey, isn't it?
