Question - has anyone asked for a donor with matching blood type even though they plan to tell any resulting child how they were conceived?

Hi ladies, sorry to hijack the tread but I was wondering if anyone had experience in mixed race embryo adopting. I'm white British & my DH is indian heritage, he has a balanced chromosome translocation & after 8 rounds of Ivf I'm losing hope my 36yo eggs are any good or that this is ever going to work for us but I'm not ready to give up on my dream of a child yet. I'm open to have to travel to find suitable embryos but I'm not sure where start, any advice appreciated

Welcome @Cityblue. I can’t be of much help but I’m sure some others will pop in with some help. I know the clinics we are using are super helpful for free via email/phone & skype so don’t be afraid to contact the clinics for direct answers. Good luck x

    Default Egg Donation Greece #7

Good question - clinics do attempt to match you in looks rather than race (although I know they're diff). So in Greece, you might be matched with a Nordic or Slavic to get the blonde hair blue eyes, if you're Anglo. Rather than Anglo Anglo match.

I'm not sure if South Africa has better chances of mixed race donors. There is an SA thread too.

    By the way - welcome!

@Littlebit20 soooo happy for, all that stress for nothing hey! Tiredness is a great sign that everything g is going well. Take care and get as much rest as you can.
@pussyviolet fantastic you are doing so well. I know this has been a stressful journey but hey, you did it! I'm not far behind you in age so hopefully it is my turn next. Take care of yourself.

Good luck to all the ladies in Greece and those getting ready to go.
@Kalina Ovum actually like to match your blood type. They say you should carry what you can naturally produce. So with me and my DH we can actually produce every blood type possible so it doesn't matter.
    @Cityblue welcome
I am pretty sure you you will have no trouble matching embryos to your ethnicities. You can definitely get Caucasian egg donors in Greece and you can get semen from one of the many agencies, there are all races available.

Basically you have to pick a ivf for clinic you like and then email them and they will help you. The clinics will ask for a photo of you and they match you with a suitable donor with your characteristics. I'm pretty sure you can chose your own sperm donor and you can see photos etc from specific agencies although I have not done this myself.

A lot of the ladies are using Embryoland in Greece with great success and some of us are going through Ruth Pellows who is a British nurse living in Greece. She acts as an agent for a few clinics and guides you every step of the way.
You can google embryoland and Ruth is at Ivftreatmentabroad.com
There are many other clinics as well but these seem to be the most popular.
Good luck with your journey we are all here to help you along the way.

Hello @Cityblue, welcome. Some great advice from the others, I would just add that you could also ask on the fertilityfriends.co.uk forum if you haven't already. It's a very large and active UK-based group, there would probably be people with experience with mixed-race donor embryo cycles there.

Thanks @Moc24, I guess I haven't gotten that far with them yet, I assumed clinics only worry about blood groups if the parents don't plan to tell the child (plus rhesus negative women have injections in pregnancy to prevent antibodies forming, but that's a different matter...)

I just wanted to check in and let you know my transfer went well today! It's now time for some rest and relaxation on the Greek islands for a few days before heading home. All the best to everyone coming over soon and hopefully I will be joining the pregnant ladies club real soon.
