    Default Experience at IVFA

Hi there, I've been with IVFA for several rounds of IVF etc. But I'm finding the communication pretty poor. We ask a lot of questions of course but it's like important info comes at the last minute and oops we've just wasted another cycle when we could have changed your medication. And it's like we're made to feel it's our fault for not knowing or being more clued up on the options.

We put our trust in our doc, that he would be trying everything to get us pregnant but it's like the ball has been dropped and we are the ones (literally) paying for it.

Feel pushed to sign forms and start more procedures without even having an appointment with doc (a phone call yes - appointments seem to be not the norm in ivf?). Def feel like part of a big business which needs to meet its budget every month and we are a sml part of that.

I know they are all big businesses but thinking about moving to Genea. I just need some up front comms on how many more hoops we could potentially jump through, so that we can decide where we opt out. The money and heartache keep adding up and we need an end point.

Thank you very much in advance for any feedback, comments xxx

@onebaby I'm really sorry hear about your experience - that's appalling and I think you're making the right decision to move on.

I think many share your feelings about the IVF industry in Aus. I think the problem I have is that there isn't much openness about embryo quality and my sense is -

    (A) that lower grade embryos are also being put back in which is why you hear of women doing 20 rounds.... there isn't an openness of outlining the likelihood - it's just sort of brushed under the carpet....trying to get info on the quality of embryos can be like pulling teeth!

    (B) immunity issues are rife and the jury is out in the industry. There are other factors that can get in the way of conception/keeping a pregnancy and that the main****** industry overlook on many occasions ...your immune system could be frying even healthy embies without the right treatment.

There aren't many immunologists that specialize in this but I know in Sydney - Dr Gamal Matthias is one.

I think testing the waters on their style of communicating is a good idea. I'm in Melbs so I'm not much help there, but follow your gut!

    All the best!

    Default IVFA experience

Thanks Phia, I just want to know they are giving us the best shot each time - as you probably know too the whole thing is a big process. I get the sense they are strict about what is classified as a healthy usable embryo, which I guess I'm OK with (have to trust to a point), but some reassurance that they understand your journey and where you are at and what you need for each cycle to give you the bet shot, wouldn't go astray! Thanks again and good luck to you!

    Default Experience at IVFA

I don't have any advice for you regarding a new clinic but I just wanted to say that I totally relate to your experience (albeit with a different clinic) and I am sorry that you are going through this too. IVF is stressful enough as it is without having to stay alert to catch all the balls that people keep dropping. I lost trust in my last fs and so I switched fs but not clinic. My new fs is much better but I think it is too late for me now. All the best for whatever you decide. Personally I find the level of commercialisation in the IVF industry offensive and it disgusts me that people can profit to such a huge extent based on other people's misfortune

@onebaby I have just finished my second round of IVF at IVFA and even though I love my doctor, I wouldn't continue another cycle there due to problems with communication with some of the staff and yes, like you, made to feel as if I'm meant to know everything. Being ignored, given the wrong information... I had a list, filled in their survey, I was polite about my feedback, and not even a follow up call. I'm not sure you're going to get any better service from any other provider though - can't compare because I haven't tried the others. But I feel for you. Good luck.

There's an opportunity - a very real opportunity - for someone to get the service part of this right!

    Default Try Genea...or Primary IVF

I think if IVFA isnt working for you you should try someone else another doctor might pick up something they missed.

I have a lot of friends who keep going to same clinic..for convenience or close to work but i personally would switch.

I know 2 people that did 10 plus cycles with Ivfa ...so i personally would not go there.

I went to Genea and thought they were amazing. Research your doctor and pick one which is suitable to your fertility issue.

We got pregnant after one cycle....I tried Primary IVF next...only because i an in my early 40s and didnt think i would get pregnant. I picked specialist which suited us. But worked on first cycle..alot more relaxed ..also very good. I had a very good experience with both.

They only other thing we did was spend a lot of money on tests for me and husband before first cycle..which i recommend. Also changed diet to more fertility rich food...no alcohol etc.

Hi im with IVF Australia. My first appoint was with dr Thillee in westmead no problem. We ended up cycling with Dr Sacks in Kogarah/maroubra. Other than his bedside manner there was never an issue. Kogarah was easier to get to where we were living in sydney.

We moved and now IVF Australia westmead is closer so back to Dr Thillee, we have no issue with him.

But the office has had extremely poor communication!!! And we are not happy!! We intend on making a complaint when we are finished. We don't want to go anywhere else because our donor sperm is held by them. If our donor sperm was not held by them we would have walked especially given our latest experience.

We have donor egg now and they never said she needed a referal until the last minute. So poor lady had to run around at the last minute. Here am I trying to make it easier for her and the clinic stuffs us around. She is a first time donor.

We have actually had to harrass them to get information. They honestly need to provide the person(s) concerned with a tick sheet. this is done and now move on to doing the next step. etc etc.

The muititude of different people we have had to call and get no where. I don't think anyone is talking to each other in the westmead office. Lots of fob offs I think.

If your not getting satisfaction with IVF Aust and you can go elsewhere then try that. But I have also heard the not so good stories of genea.

    Which clinic do you attend?

yes I feel the same way. Ignored, given wrong information and fobbed off!! We all need to make a collective complaint. The amount of wrong information and being ignored has reached an all time high at IVF Aust.
