Default VIC Mother baby units - werribee vs northpark

    Hi,

Need some feedback from anyone who has been to either werribee mercy or northpark mother baby unit.

I recently spent a week in werribee but had to leave due to babies (twins) being sick. A, now back on the wait list but can also probably get a bed at northpark. There were some things that happened while in werribee that I wasn't thrilled about, mainly miscommunication issues and not sure the program can offer enough support (not able to provide weekly individual therapy), so not sure about going back there, but maybe it's a case of better the devil you know?

    TIA

Got some questions for you @Tinkers:
What did you like about it, what was helpful?
What was the treatment program there (e.g., group programs, individual counselling, partner/family sessions, etc) - how often did these take place?
    How long did you stay?
    Could your partner stay?
Do you know how many beds are in the unit?
Was there an option to have babies in the nursery overnight?
I've heard that recently there have been cuts to staff there and only one staff on overnight?

Sorry. I was at the MBU mostly for sleep school. That unit covers sleep issues, and also treatment for depression/anxiety etc. If they have a bed, you should take it. I was able to participate in the daily activities whilst there and also chat with some mums who were there being treated for pnd.

@Tinkers when you were there were there many dads there? They've said it's fine for my partner to stay the whole time.

Yes dads often came in and joined in at meal times...as we all could.eat in the same area...or you can go back to your room. Not sure on how many stayed the nights though as i think a few of them had other kids to care for at home. A few of the ladies had been staying there for several weeks so definitely not going to kick ppl out before they feel its safe to do so.

With there only being 2 staff during the day and one at night did you feel there was enough help? And did you feel there was 'therapy' offered as well (talking to psychiatrist or psychologist) as just hands on help from the nurses?
