Default Can anyone interpret follicle doppler scan?

I had an AFC scan on cd11. The dominant follicle is 15mm and I usually ovulate on cd14. The sonographer turned on the doppler colour flow and just want to know if someone can confirm if this is the blood flow to be expected around a dominant follicle? Just want to make sure it's not a cyst.

If it measures more than 2.5cm, it's like its a cyst - definite if it's over 3cm.
There should be some color flow seen around the follicle - there is artefact in this picture cz there won't be any flow within the follicle.

Thanks so much @Shali! This one was a 1.4cm follicle, which was the lead and did not get me pregnant

Thanks for the info. I wish my doctor or the sonographer could explain it the way you did! So the follicle wouldn't have any flow inside right?

    xx

Glad I could help. I'm a Sonographer but I usually don't communicate these details to a patient as I believe half knowledge is worse than none. And it leads to anxiety for no reason.

But yes, That's correct, sometimes on tv ultrasound you can see a cyst within a cyst appearance - which is an egg within the follicle. This dominant follicle usually has color flow around it. Initially it's less but after ovulation it turns to corpus luteum which has a ring of fire appearance - which shows the possible pregnancy will be supported by it.

Don't worry too much about all this info. Basically cyst or no cyst, it's not something to stress about. As long as you have good number of follicles and one is maturing each month.

Many thanks @Shali hun, I appreciate you responding to the post and giving me the information I'm starting IVF again next month, after 7 failed cycles, but this time it will be after endo excision! That scan was done during month 2 of us TTC naturally.. I had a very good egg count. I was also told I may have polycystic ovaries (but not the syndrome), so I was curious.. This cycle I ovulated on day 11, when I normally ovulate on day 14! Oh well, IVF it is in 2 weeks!!

    Do you have any kids?

Oh wow, that's one heck of a journey so far, all the very best to you!
We're in the second month of trying but my cycles are crazy irregular, so it really messes with my control freak brain.

I find a lot of sonos and practices over call polycystic ovaries - criteria is more than 12-15 follicles, volume more than 10, and string of pearls appearance. From that one picture i personally don't think it is polycystic
    But doctors are more reliable

After send your AFC scan to a doctor friend of mine. He thinks it's like its a cyst. You‘d better go to the local hospital to see a specialist.

Thank you. This was a few months ago now. If it's a cyst, it might explain why I didn't get pregnant that month. My understanding from the previous poster is that it wasn't a cyst because it wasn't greater than 2.5cm, it was 1.4cm at the time, but that doesn't mean it wasn't growing to be one. I'm not sure whether it should have any colour flow to it either.. Thank you for going out of your way to send it to your sonographer friend. That was very kind of you and I really appreciate it.
