Default Do i really need a dating scan?

I just found out im pregnant from peeing on a stick. I went to Dr, told him about the stick and missed period and the dare of last period and added that my periods are always regular.

He said after i do the blood test i need to do a dating scan to make sure there is heart beat.

As much as I'd love to see little life on the TV i have 14 month old who i'd need to take with me on my own and i dont now if i can handle that.

Can't i just do the blood test and then go do the 12 week scan, my hubby will come with us then.

Yep I didnt have a dating scan with DD and DS, although I ended up with an early scan with my first (DD) because I had a bleed.

I did have a dating scan with the baby between my two which I unfortunately miscarried. I didnt worry about a dating scan with DS after than experience

No you don't have to have an early scan. Dating scans are not necessary when you know the date of your last period and they're regular

I don't think it's really necessary unless you have no idea when you conceived or you have really irregular cycles.

My GP referred me for one as I was anxious about seeing if everything was OK, but otherwise, it was not something she particularly recommended.

I had one with my 3rd but I would have rather wait until the 12 week scan. I found out with my second during a completely unrelated ultrasound scan that I was about 14 weeks gone.... didn't miss a period. So with the next one he wanted to make sure I wasn't further than we thought once I'd missed a period.

Congrats on your pregnancy I always thought dating scans are just that "to work out your due date" but have found doctors offer them to most people these days. I have them due to reoccurring miscarriages and also ovulating late so my date doesn't go by LMP. If you don't need or want one, I would wait until your 12 week scan.
