Default HCG 22 - Viable Pregnancy?

    Hi all,

I stopped pill on 1 April.... one day of light bleeding on 5 April... AF never returned so tested. and got a positive (just on HPT). Had a blood test and the HCG is only 22. Very early or not viable? Has anyone had any experience with this?

It is hard to know as it may be super early. Doctor should do another test to make sure it's increasing. Good luck.

You won't know unless you have another blood test. It's less about a single number and more about a doubling in the number every 48hrs or so

    Hi,

I've had lots of bad and a little bit of good experience with low HCG, repeat test is the only way to tell if it's going to progress to check doubling rates. Even then, HCG is only useful until you are far enough along to have a scan at about 7 or 8 weeks when a heart beat would be able to be seen.

My DS started at a HCG of 19 at what I thought was 8dpo (turned out to be 6dpo according to later scans). The HCG didn't quite double in 48hrs for the next test either, but then it took off.

    Good luck!

Thanks ladies, I went to another GP today and got a pathology form for repeat test. He wasn't optimistic either - just said if I have cramping or bleeding to seek medical attention

If the cramping isn't too bad it would just be your period and no need to seek medical attention. Not sure why he would say that..

Sounds like it could go either way from here. Hope it's a positive outcome :-)
