I have a 7 seat Ford territory and I love it. Will be sad to get rid of it in a few years and no idea what I will replace it with because it has been such a great car.

I just bought a Hyundai Tucson a week ago, absolutely love it. Very comfortable to drive, we have bub rear facing and the passenger still has plenty of space. The main reason we wanted a bigger car was for the boot space as with a pram in the boot, we couldn't get anything else in my Mazda 3 hatch boot. This one fits our large pram and still has space for shopping bags, kids backpacks, etc.

I'd also suggest looking at the Nissan x-trail, its slightly bigger than the Tucson, we liked them equally so made the decision based on price as the Tucson was about $4k cheaper.

Default Best type of car for a new family

Consider the boot space. Some SUVs have tiny boot spaces. A friend just bought a VW Tiguan and a pram barely fits! I have a Hyundai Accent Sedan and love my boot space. I'm sure we'll upgrade when child #2 comes along but I'll always want a decent sized boot

Wow - what kind of pram does she have??? I have the double bugaboo (donkey) and it fits in the boot of my Touareg with room to spare! Does she perhaps have the smaller VW SUV (Tiguan)?

Some SUVs are terrible for leg room (eg our Jeep Wrangler) so I'd try putting a rear facing car seat with the headrest extended and see if you can sit in the front seat before buying anything.

I thought she must have had triplets or something!!! And you're right, the Tiguan boot is tiny, I know people that do it, but it would drive me nuts!
