I was given a referral from my GP and just called and booked in at about 9 weeks. They do your initial book in appointment and they will ask you what your care arrangement during pregnancy will be and will either book you into their clinic for further appointments or liase with your GP or OBGYN for subsequent appointments.

ETA - we were planning to wait until 12 weeks to tell our older children but they overheard us talking about it at around 5 weeks so we had that discussion early on. They were 14 & 11 at the time.

When I had DD2, DD1 was not quite 2 so we waited until closer to the due date so she didn't have to wait FOREVER!
