    big hugs. it does sound like he's taken it hugely personally. i think you're going to need to make some quiet time together and find out why he's so offended about your idea. i think your bday gift idea is wonderful, and you worded it tactfully and tastefully.

    i don't really get why he'd be that cut about the family heirloom ring tbh. the idea that one ring is going to be to every recipient's taste is silly. i think it's completely natural and normal and understandable you'd want a ring "of your own".
